Two White Ravens

My 'take a break' artwork! I heart this piece, it was spontaneous, though it was a theme I'd been wanting to express for some time. And I've been obsessed with white ravens for a long long time. Both for shamanic reasons, and because well - white can be shiny and iridescent too!









Photo for the shinyness. Yay iridescence. It makes me squee, if I could make just about every surface on this planet iridescent or refractive or metallic or opalescent or pearlescent or whatever... I probably would.

This is lovely. Please pardon my presumption, but I have a question: have you ever considered doing more Egyptian themed art aside from your Anubis and Bast pieces? Because the colours in this, and the way the piece "moves" puts me strongly in mind of Djehuti (Thoth) (http://www.crystalinks.com/thoth.html) and Sacred Ibis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Ibis).

I have drawn Djehuti before actually, was one of the first commissions I ever got! But I heart Ibis in general, and Ardeidae (herons, which aren't ibis, but still) is my favourite family of birds pretty much above all others.

The swirls look different. I agree with the tree comment someone else said...they look plant-like.

So the one with the throat thing going on is the male? Or do both sexes have the throat hackles?

You know what would be really cool and far out? Seeing an actual white raven around your house after doing this piece. Albinos are so fascinating.

I've modelled these off the Aussie raven; both have throat hackles (in fact, offhand, I think they have the largest throat hackles of any raven in the world). The male has the slightly larger ones, and is a tiny bit bigger than the female; so in this one, he's the one on top with his eye open. :)

And I've never seen a white or leucistic raven in person before, but that's okay, I see them when I journey; and I become one myself sometimes.
