American Black Bear as Totem

The American black bear is a common bear species (with many subspecies) found throughout North America and well-adapted to the landscapes found throughout. They are powerful animals, able to stand on two legs, and run at fast speeds when necessary. American black bears - like most bears - are omnivores, changing their diet depending on seasonal availability. They are known to compete with wolverines, cougars and brown bears for kills / food.

American black bear as totem represents: (not exhaustive)

Sniffing out the truth, containing great power, being a mover and shaker, needing long breaks from people and projects, taking time-out, sabbaticals, climbing to the top, being misunderstood, having your true nature underestimated or overlooked, meditation, highs and lows.

Ooooooh. This one really strikes home. Not as much as Alaskan Brown Bear, but still.

:/ Bears are scary. Black bears are the worst. Grizzly bears, you can climb up a tree to avoid, but black bears will fucking climb up after you and eat you D:

I like a bear that climbs.

of course, I also like any animal that is NOT in Australia and can't kill me dead here!

I work with Black Bear myself, but somehow this piece isn't doing anything for me. It's still very nice, but I don't connect with it.

*nods* I've had that before with a couple of other animals and people not connecting. And even when I've done my own totem animal for someone else, and not connected. It's weird how that happens.

Meanwhile, I look at this piece and it resonates like the long low thrum of a cello's string. The American black bear is my totem—more a passive lifelong companion than a figure I work with directly, but nonetheless a part of me. And is a beautiful capture of how that totem figures for me.

Wonderflly done.

Thank you so much. And your description of how it resonates is so poetic, I love it. :)
