Bottlenose Dolphin as Totem
Want to see information about the bottle-nosed dolphin as totem?
The bottlenose dolphin is divided into two species - the Common and Indo-Pacific. They grow between 2-4 metres in length, live in pods, and are perhaps most well-known for their adaptability, creativity, ability to use tools while hunting, intelligence, sophisticated communication abilities etc. Basically they're one smart animal!

Original available for sale - ($75 AUD on hold in a batch for
arnajade)
18.5 x 20.5cm (or 7.4 x 8 in)
illo's board, fineliner, aquarelle, pencil, metallic and iridescent paint

Date: 2009-03-08 11:58 pm (UTC)I did try and make the colour bands here look like waves, I'm so glad it's come across that way.

Date: 2009-03-09 12:20 am (UTC)I did a river dolphin aaaaages ago, which I ended up throwing out because I hated it so much (and so - thankfully - did river dolphin!). In that moment, I kind of realised that while dolphin and I have our massive differences, we consider a few of the same things aesthetically pleasing - the beauty of a good line, for example.
Since then, I've had not quite as much animosity as I used to, towards them. I've found some common ground.
This picture was still a real challenge though. The background I didn't like at all, originally, and finally ended up adding some yellow highlights throughout the whole piece which really warmed it up.
But... surprisingly, dolphin is my favourite at the moment. *is shocked*
