1. Name: Ravenari
2. Age: 25
3. How long have you been reading tarot? I was interested at the age of 11, and I had two decks at 13. I was that lame as a child. I would consider myself to have been fairly adept at tarot readings for others at the age of about 17, highschool and work were two excellent breaking grounds.
4. What got you involved in tarot? I was already in a new age store looking at information on totems (Jamie Sams, I believe, lol) and then I was just drawn to them, mainly then because of the artwork.
5. Do you have a favorite deck? The Enchanted Tarot
6. Do you have a favorite card? I have a grudging respect for The Tower, but otherwise I do not have a favourite card from the major arcana. The celestial ones like Star / Sun / Moon are all ones I enjoy receiving in a reading both for myself and others.
7. What Tarot card best describes your personality? From The Enchanted Tarot I believe the The Queen of Swords suits my personality best. From the Major Arcana? Probably The Hermit, which I draw as a frequent reminder.
8. If you had to pick three cards to describe the day you're having, which three card combination would you choose and why?
It's very early morning, so I'll use cards to describe the day I had yesterday:
10 of Wands, 9 of Wands and Judgement from the Major Arcana. I chose these because I worked yesterday, and a very heavy pall of oppression marked everything I did (first card), the only way I was able to 'move past it' was through mental discipline and inner focus (9 of wands). I am aware that I want to change my life at this time, but every time I think about it, I realise that I judge myself too harshly to realise how best to follow my dreams. I am aware that I need to let go of my self-judgement (again, discipline and oppression) in order to listen to the genuine call that judges me less harshly (major arcana).
9. Do you read intuitively?
Yes. But not always.
10. Do you practice any other forms of divination?
Rune casting. Black bowl scrying.
11. Are you a religious person?
Yes. Russian Shamanism.
12. Do you have a tarot mentor? Who are they? How do they inspire you?
No tarot mentor. I have never actually been specifically mentored in tarot, but I am blessed to lately have met some very talented people, and gratified to find that I've been on the right path most of the time.
13. Describe the most accurate reading you've done.
I would prefer not to, out of respect for the client. To be more vague however, I've predicted a car crash not at the fault of the driver, pregnancy when the client swore she was not pregnant (she was despite a tubal ligation), and other things like this. I tend to get quite specific in tarot readings, I think the imagery unlocks a very tiny psychic ability once focused.
14. How does reading tarot make you feel?
Helpful, and sometimes exhilirated, and sometimes like 'oh no, not again, I've already been here and done this.' Lol.
15. Is there a card that continually stumps you?
No. There are some cards I find challenging, but I generally know how to read them. *shrugs* In the past I used to find much of the Swords very challenging.
16. Do you have a favorite tarot spread?
Modified Celtic Cross.
17. Do you charge for your readings?
No, though I do accept gifts. If I did it more professionally (i.e. actually advertised, rather than relying on word of mouth, I probably would).
18. Strangest place you've read tarot?
In the sterile breakroom at Toys R Us, and a fair few times during Gym class on concrete! Lol.
19. If you could create one card to add to your deck, what would it be called? What would this card mean?
I do not believe the tarot needs another card, it is a fairly complete system, and with over 70 cards (usually) at your disposal, it's pretty hard to think of something completely unique that the system requires. Though... come to think of it, maybe a card indicating Time and therefore also 'patience.' A card like this may indicate that the results of a spread may take longer than expected, or that the client / querent may not be ready for a lot of the changes being shown. I'd probably make it a major arcana card and call it The Hourglass or something else equally lame. :D
20. Does anyone you know not agree with your tarot practices?
No.
21. Ever regretted a particular reading?
Yes, one. Before I had developed a strong ethic on what to say and what not to say, I told someone that I saw death in their spread, I was rather more specific than this (not because of the Death card, mind). I was young, stupid, and shocked when they died two weeks later in a horrific car crash. I sometimes wonder if they didn't enjoy their life as fully in the last two weeks because I told them, and I often question how much is 'too much.' These days, I do not reveal everything I see in a tarot reading if some of it is overwhelmingly to the negative, since there is also such a margin for human error anyway. What if I'd been wrong and the person had simply been waiting to die, or for someone close to them to die? It haunts me.
I wouldn't call it 'regret', so much as just self-awareness. I believe I learnt from that, and other similar experiences. It has made me a stronger reader today, in possession of more integrity.
22. Do you read for yourself as well as others?
Yes.
23. Have you predicted any mainstream/world events using tarot?
Weather anomalies, mainly. I don't tend to look for big world events, since I see some of them in my dreams.
24. Do you read with reversals?
It will depend on the deck. If the deck hasn't factored this into its make-up, then definitely not. If it has, then I will, because I believe reversals can be useful.
I also can't give readings that include reversals for myself, because I instinctively turn all the cards up the same way anyway.
25. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
No.

Date: 2007-01-16 12:35 pm (UTC)We have an interesting connection. The Enchanted Tarot was my first deck. I used it for a time and then moved to the Thoth Deck. Quite a contrast. I found the Enchanted Tarot to be almost too soft. For example, The Tower card in the Enchanted Tarot has little of the "forced change" energy normally associated with the deck.
I did work with the Ryder/Waite (sp?) deck a lot. I found it to be very educational and informative to know the traditional pictures and traditional meanings to the cards. This study provides me with a touchstone to the archetypical energies of the cards.

Date: 2007-01-16 01:41 pm (UTC)I'm hoping to get at least two more decks now, in the tarot anyway, though I have about four different oracle card decks which I used more frequently than tarot these days. Tarot to me is more light-hearted than runes anyway (for me, I think I will always see runes as a very grave practice), so having a deck that is more artistic and aesthetic (like the Enchanted) and less cold and directly archetypal (like the Thoth / RW) probably fits me more.
I have the runes for the big stuff, I guess. :)
