Umiri (01)
(Swamp paperbark grove spirit).

I met Umiri many years ago now, and feel s/he is the patron of that particular grove of swamp paperbarks in the southern end of Koondoola; who no longer experience the regular rise and fall of the swamp since the government came in and drained them all away by using groundwater for our tapwater.

Umiri isn't a spirit I 'worked' with spiritually, just a spirit I paid respect to and still do from time to time. I don't get down to the Southern end very often, but I like it when I do. It feels older there, and more primal. And I'd be lying if I didn't say my meeting Umiri is a part of that.

Absolutely gorgeous!
Since so much of magic and the spiritual is intent, even though I'm on a different continent, I just offered Umiri a bowl of water on my altar and some acorns from the oak outside my window. Your work makes me see and feel that intense longing for moisture. I hope he/she can sense my offering and take some comfort from it...

I really like the way you coloured the sky, its like somewhere between day and night, but not really sunset. S/he's clutching at raindrops that look like stars?

Wow. Just....wow.

This piece definitely has a very indigenous feel to me. I looove the gradients of color. And the darker Umiri against the darkening blue background just has a very otherworld/spirit-feel to me.

Your art, and you, are wonderful. ^_^ I definitely look forward to seeing more pieces from you, with land spirits.

that is really, really cool. I hope in my new work I get to meet such awesome spirits!

Have you encountered any spirits that ask for peppermints? Apparently I've been told that is what my local spirits want/prefer...I usually give them alcohol :)

Working directly with 'wights' or land spirits is out of my ken at the moment. I'm going to try and convince the husband to let me order some prints...

I think it's brilliant that [livejournal.com profile] storm_seeker was so impressed she's promoting this one :-)
I really love this one, too. I didn't think much of it in the black and white, but the colours really bring the whole thing to life. S/he looks as if those dark hands are reaching for the sky, catching the stars, and it sings such a deep, organic, primordial feel to it, the sort of song the things that crawl in the undergrowth in the rainforests here sing, but at the same time, an awareness of sparsity and heat over there in WA.
... I don't know, there's something in that that doesn't fit with words. Not that you want my opinion, but that's it - I think it's fab :-)

I've been looking at Umiri a lot, actually. Just gazing at it. Getting lost in the swirls myself. I think I may be able to trigger off some journeys or at the very least - contacting the specific spirits involved - from this sort of artwork.
