Umiri (01)
(Swamp paperbark grove spirit).

I met Umiri many years ago now, and feel s/he is the patron of that particular grove of swamp paperbarks in the southern end of Koondoola; who no longer experience the regular rise and fall of the swamp since the government came in and drained them all away by using groundwater for our tapwater.

Umiri isn't a spirit I 'worked' with spiritually, just a spirit I paid respect to and still do from time to time. I don't get down to the Southern end very often, but I like it when I do. It feels older there, and more primal. And I'd be lying if I didn't say my meeting Umiri is a part of that.

Wow. Thank you. It's not my favourite, but... I think it will be one of the most 'useful' in terms of getting in touch with Koondoola spirits when I'm not actually *in* Koondoola.

Wow, I'm so glad you did that; and while I can't speak on behalf of a spirit, I think Umiri would be happy for any offerings of water. Or any recognition outside of maybe one or two people at all.

You know, with all the Miyazaki I've seen, it probably is a little Miyazaki inspired. Maybe the night-walker from Princess Mononoke?

I see it as reaching out to a dry sky (i.e. there are stars, but no rain, or clouds); but any interpretation is valid and I like yours a lot.

And yeah, I see it as being between day/night too. I was going to go with sunset colours originally, but... well some part of my brain took over and changed them last minute. ;)

The next one, I'm pretty sure, is Emu Girl. Who hasn't given me a more specific name than that, and probably won't. She's haunted my dreams for years. I think she'll follow me all the way to Malvern Springs, but she wants to be drawn.

I hope you do too! I bet you will. :D

I've never specifically encountered a spirit that asked for peppermints; but nothing really surprises me anymore and I think it's perfectly valid!

It's funny, because in some ways I liked it more as black and white (even though it had too many errors in it to stay that way). Heh, it's weird how those things happen.

Thank you so much, and I always value your opinion. *snugs*

Oooer, awesome. I haven't met many forest spirits myself (not having been in many), but I bet that's a pretty profound experience.

Wow, *blush* thank you. It's not one of my favourites (in terms of skill and such), but I've been looking at this piece a lot since I've finished it. I think it's going to really help me 'connect' with Koondoola once I move away from here.

I loved the b/w version as well, and thought a few times that I'd stuffed it throughout colouring. But I'm glad it turned out! Lol.

uh... i hyperventilated a little when I saw this. the details of the branches in the foreground, the red eyes, the reaching tendrils. I absolutely never buy art but OH PLEASE would you consider a print? I'm broke but it doesn't matter because I love this so, so much.

plant and land spirits are sort of an obsession of mine. I fell off the wagon last year but I'm really looking forward to getting to know them again this spring...especially with all the wild food foraging I'll be doing.

As much as I love animals I have to say that THIS is my favorite now. This looks like the work of an award winning illustrator, or someone who creates posters that everyone wants to hang in their room. :-)
I feel very sorry for Umiri. S/he reminds me somewhat of some bald cypress trees who seem to be in mourning for swamps-that-were.
