Yesterday, you flew down and landed beside me, a metre to my left, and you said;

and you picked a coin I had dropped onto the ground, accidentally,
and flew away with it in your mouth
and your partner joined you, and I watched you with your sleekness, finding the highest branches
in the suburb, and handing the coin over, serenading the sun,
as I stepped onto the bus and was driven away from the shelter within your territory
that became mine, because
I am you.

I have so many 'strange' encounters with animals that I can explain away.
A raven being so fascinated with shiny objects that - wild -
it will risk flying near anyone to pick up a coin half-buried by sand.

But I know what I believe, and it's not the rationality all the time,
yesterday it was the spirituality.

Two days before, I stood out the front of my deserted work
watching the heavy black clouds
and the lightning display itself for me.
And when I said 'tolere, Hrum, saskaya!' joyfully, quietly under my breath,
you upped your ante,
and a bachelor band of ravens flew across the sky
wheeling and diving,
before landing on the trees before me
and laughing derision at the lightning.
'you can't get me.'
'you can't get me.'

A week before, I sat in the back garden, under the sultry sun
that happily gives us the moodiness of storm and rending sky,
and as I sat there, a raven came and landed on the ground before me.
By some fluke, Missy and Moet were inside and sleeping.
You watched me with your white eyes,
cocking your head, first one way, then another.
And when you finally flew away, a good two minutes later,
you dropped two pinion feathers. One from each wing.

So, tolere,
I know you.
I am you.

hey you! just thought i'd let you know, that I'm getting my next tatt in january (if I can manage to get a spot at my favoured tattoo studio - apparently they are booked out for months!)... and I'm thinking along the lines of your circular fox, at rest, as it is in Wandsuna - Soul :) I just love the way it's drawn I am just as drawn to foxes as I am to Thylacines.

Unique tattoos in Subi - it is where I got my thylacine tatt and people are still blown away by how good it is :)

I actually think it's pretty good already :) I'll take it in and show them and have a chat when I make the appointment though...
