[Vilturj] Glyphs - Installment One.
Oct. 24th, 2006 04:36 pmThese are all .gif files, so they'll all be pretty fast loading, though the quality isn't as great. The five glyphs drawn in this batch with explanations are:
Hrum (the thunder god)
Soul
The Three Souls
The Four Souls
Zirczekaja (the underworld god)
Hrum (pron. Hroom)

The two bowed lines represent the heavy thunder clouds of this thunder god, and the object underneath is the hearth flame - gifted to us by the thunder god in direct response to Vavale when she took the breath and soul out of all life - Hrum gave it back.
Soul / Urt (pron. URD/URda)

I'm not as familiar with the origins of this glyph, though it represents one of two halves, or three thirds, or four fourths. Alone, as this single line, it tends to indicate a specific soul - usually the Urt. The line at the top represents the connection to the upperworld, which is a long way away from the two lines at the bottom which represent the middleworld and underworld. It is the common belief in Vilturj that we are always far closer at any one point in our lives to death, and therefore the underworld, than we are to the celestial gods - the upperworld.
The Three Souls

The standard 'three' souls that all humans are thought to possess in the worldview of Vilturj.
The Four Souls

The 'four' souls, the top glyph above the three souls being representative of the fourth, nameless soul that is given to the Orai'ma/ka (or Ilkara'ma/ka - sky shamans) by the spirits when they fulfil their final and most arduous journey.
Zirczekaja (pron. zer-cheh-KAY-jah)

The glyph for one of the underworld gods, Zirczekaja, who presents as a young, short man with a propensity towards sadism and violence. He is very active and athletic. In this glyph, the horizontal line (drawn first) with a spiral at the end is indicative of the underworlds in general. The two glyphs (left drawn second, right drawn third) on either side represent duality, or opposing forces, being brought together in harmony. The five lines (drawn last, from right to left) above the underworld individualise this as Zirczekaja's glyph.
There will be more soon, as I've drawn and am formatting a whole heap. :)
