Own Your Totem!

I got a new top today! Just saw Glen, things are going alright between us. We had 'mock fights' which leave us in hysterics. We abuse each other with names like 'doodle' and I get on his back and then he acts all offended and we 'fight' some more. It's fun, though it could've gone bad. I did start out all sulky cuz he didn't notice my new top. And he was like 'I did notice it! Can I help it if I noticed your foot injury more?'

Yeah, I hurt my foot. *abashed smile*

You know what I realised I liked today? Was that Pinocchio's totem animal, or 'spirit guardian' was a cricket. I think that's fantastic. So many people are so obsessed with (god help me) wolf totems, or having certain types of totems that are 'cool' that the other totems get overlooked. In many cases, newbies completely overlook their totem and either 'create' one because it's cool, or become obsessed with their one animal guide who happens to be a polar bear or something.

Well I say - own your totem! If it's a snail, be proud of yourself, and snail! I've had a guide who has 'walked' with me for many lifetimes, and yes, it is snail. Common, European snail...who is a bit of a parasite in Australia. I feel close to all snails, with their spiral shells. Their ability to slide over the blade of a razor without cutting themselves despite the pressure of their bodies. Their carrying of their spirit homes and physical homes on their bodies and their great perseverance. Even their eggs are beautiful. If you ever dig up snail eggs in a garden you'll understand what I mean, it's like finding a little cluster of soft pearls.

I've always saved snails. I don't care if they eat my plants, we have enough birds that the snails are controlled. People that step on them just because they're 'ugly' are ignorant to me, no animal (aside from maybe the human ;) ) is truly icky if you care to understand it better. Even creatures like cockroaches can be beautiful if you study them, and the way they live. Plus it helps to know that they don't actually spread as many diseases as other animals. There are many types of cockroach and most types do not spread any diseases. They feed on fruits in rainforests, on roots under the ground, and they come in a wide variety of colours.
