I never made it to the Bishop's Palace Gardens last time and it was like, I'm shocked, because it was by far and away my favourite place in Chichester (aside from my bed, oh god, lying down is so NICE isn't it?)
It was raining the day we went. A bunch of schoolkids were sometimes running around the Gardens but otherwise we had the place to ourselves, even though it wasn't really rain (but that weak ass drizzle that UK people call rain but is just like, the same kind of pathetic water vapour you get when you step out of the shower).
Also, hilariously, Chichester was the rainiest place we went. Our family, and other Southerners were like 'oh nooo, you're going to Scotland, you'll get no good weather up there!' But psych, the worst weather was by far and away in the South, in Chi, and the best weather was up in Inverness, where it got up to 19C. So, y'know.
The Gardens were established in 1147-1148, but are maintained by the Council for everyone to enjoy.

SPRING. Speaking of. I was enamoured with the UK Spring, because it was obviously the stereotype of Spring that I am entirely unaccustomed to as an Australian that lives in Perth. So many trees were bare and budding, weird! So many daffodils and dandelions everywhere. Weird! BUMBLEBEES! FAT AND CUTE! Birds singing and they never ever EVER EVER SHUT UP. It was incredible and I loved it.

This is where a bunch of kids were running around. Glen and I were mostly just ambling along. I was going pretty slowly, trying to take in as much of it as I could. I feel I did a good job, because if I close my eyes, I can feel the cool air, the misty not-rain, hear the shrieking of happy children (and see the despairing eyes of their teacher), and see the bursts of colour, the vivid green, the smell of rich earth and growing things.

Holly is such a lovely novelty. I absolutely spiked myself several times just going 'holly! holly!'

Am I a Giant? Or is that wall just...weirdly short?

Tulips were everywhere, and lovely. They were far more common in England than in Scotland, but they were Around.

I imagine this place becomes intolerable in Summer if you don't like people, like me.

FER1935

I do like a good brick wall.

Gosh I miss this place.

Stereotypical Spring just casually showing off.

We were up on the Roman Wall looking down here (more on that later).

A fat, happy friend!
