[Photos] Wildlife - Red Fox

This mated pair were incredibly charming,
so I apologise for like 15 extremely similar photos,
but I'm not sure I'll ever see a fox pair like this again,
and so happily as well.

Just seemed to be the right time of year,
and the right time to be watching with a camera.

We actually see them a lot in the wild too (these were in a wildlife park), even though they're feral here there's more red foxes in Australia than there are in their natural habitats. (There are more foxes in Melbourne city than there are in the entirety of the UK).

They are so cute! I say that as someone who views animals through a scientist's lens as well as an enthusiast for wildlife. It's an official term, they're *cute*. I always enjoy watching foxes who are calm (as opposed to rightfully running away from the humans in terror) because it highlights just how "un canine" they are. They're much more feline in expression (and those eyes!), which is a really awe-inspiring reminder (to me in any case) of the common evolutionary origins of the Order Carnivora. Foxes still straddle the canine/feline split.

They were so cute, I mean they were relaxed, the eye contact was easy when they made it with me (this was halfway through me taking photos), and they were comfortable around each other and I suspect have been a pair for a long time.

I read once on Twitter or Tumblr that foxes are 'dog hardware running cat software' and I've never been able to get it out of my head since. :D
