[Photos] Wildlife - Kangaroos

Most of these kangaroos are red kangaroos,
though they're being bred towards being leucistic,
so many are far paler than their natural colouring.
But it also means none of them are albinos
potentially suffering from the genetic issues that can come with albinism.

I petted a lot of these folks I'm not gonna lie they're very fuzzy and I love them all.

They have really nice winter fuzziness atm.

And then was joined by another young one.

I love how they lope slowly.





These folks were happily chewing on some paperbark, not sure why (possibly digestive? Or something they'd naturally do in the wild?) And had no interest in the pellet food.

I'll hazard a guess as to why they were chewing the bark. My guess is that they were stimulating saliva flow in order to buffer their stomach acid and that the pellet food is responsible for the pH being out of whack.

I looked it up - bark is just a standard part of their diet. Caversham makes a specialised pellet feed for them, but the kangaroos can freely self-supplement (and do) with grass / bark as they want, and are rotated out at times too. But yeah bark is just part of a kangaroo's diet.

They do look very gangly/ungainly at low speed/when not moving.

But at full speed, they are poetry in motion. And damn, can they move.

I went and found a video of a group of them coming up and over a hill. That's really impressive. :D
