[Art] A Fox. A Grouse.

It's always weird to draw a grouse while thinking of how,
in Australia,
'grouse' means 'awesome'
like: 'that's so grouse man.'
But I'm glad it's fallen out of colloquial vernacular in Perth.
I was never a fan.

I particularly like the eyes and the muzzle on the Darwin's fox, and the feathers and the grass seed heads on the grouse.

Huh. For us to grouse is to grumble or complain.

Yeah, grousing as a form of complaint, or 'to grouse' has etymologically been around for a while, particularly in Europe/UK (it likely originated in France). I'm familiar with that usage since it's been in a ton of British-based boarding school books since I was a young reader, but it's not commonly used in that form here unless one is an expat (or read a lot of UK boarding school books).

It's used that way in the United States, as well.

The fox is lovely too, but your birds, they get me right in the heart.

I really love the use of the white on these, for both the feather patterning on the grouse, and the distinct fur on the fox. <3 Also the facial structure of the Darwin's Fox is fascinating to me! So much broader/stronger looking than the red foxes I've grown up with.
