Oooh I love the shading and use of colour on the hippo! Are the outline swirls silver metallic?

Yeah, it's a platinum paint, as opposed to silver, so it comes off as quite dark when the light isn't hitting it. But when the light does hit it, it goes white / grey-white.

I saw hippos at the zoo, too. Very fat, poopie things they were. Never got out of the water (it was very hot) and they had quite a poo pile. The zoo had a setup so we could see into the water area. :3

As usual you've brilliantly captured your subject. I like the way that you've managed not to make him look jolly, which I think is a very hard thing to do!

I like the use of pink, and the inclusion of the whiskers!

But what I especially like is the serious expression you've captured. He or she looks ready to charge off the page and really cause some damage....if provoked.

And after all, hippos are pretty dangerous animals, potentially.

Heh heh. I just saw a commercial for one of those 'When Animals Attack' type shows, & this hippo just turns on a reporter with no real warning & whacks him pretty hard from behind w/its wide-open mouth. This hippo looks like it's contemplating a reporter's backside. Love it!
