Delayed again because my mouse crapped out,
I now have a new, reliable mouse
and I can finally click on things and you know, scroll and stuff.
Anyway, not very interesting subjects, really,
but as it's been 40C lately, I haven't been doing much.

I've been working on a hard science fiction series for a while, and I tend to have a multi-pronged way of approaching a trilogy. Which is, essentially, to print a lot of the structure and worldbuilding out so I can constantly refer to it. This is one of the main folders. I have three others, as well as a journal. And a Scrivener account...

I think I'm a tad bit jealous of your trilogy structuring there. For my fantasy saga, most of my notes (plots, characters, timelines, etc) are strewn through 2 notebooks (since I often hand-write the first draft). I do have OneNote Notebook devoted to them that I'm slowly trying to put all the loose notes into. Plus then I have maps all over, mostly in hardcopy form.

This is the first trilogy I've planned all at once (literally, have chapter breakdowns for all three books - though book 3 is a skeleton structure, because so many things can change as the characters evolved). I do my first drafts on the computer, but if I'm ever stuck, I'll go back to handwriting. It just seems to help the sentences flow more smoothly. :)

This makes much more sense than the way I organize writing, which is to say "not at all." Neat!

I'm an outline writer. My last novel (which I'm hoping to shop around to agents soon) had a very clear chapter outline, including bits of dialogue that I wanted to see happen and little side notes and so forth. Of course, hard science fiction requires so much more worldbuilding and research than my last novel (which was Australian literature, and not set in any other realm except this one), so the planning has sprawled into a kind of monstrosity. I spent about 6 months researching seismology / geology / volcanology / climatology - meteorology and the elements, mostly because I am setting this on another planet, and wanted to be able to have a scientific basis for a lot of what I'm writing.

It does mean there are fun things like mining deep sea hydrothermal vents for minerals though, which is fun. :D

I'm really excited for your book! I love hard sci-fi but that doesn't seem to be as plentiful as the other kind.

Will you self-publish or go a traditional route?

I will try and go a traditional route. I'm not sure how likely it is to get published through a traditional route, but I will certainly try. :)
