[PotD] Blue Dragonfly.

There are two photos today,
because my subject was just so beguiling.
The dragonfly flew away and then came back,
giving me two different poses.
At least someone is enjoying the heat and humidity!

I really love the purple-ish irridescence on the eyes. Is the dragonfly actually metallic, and it just doesn't show in the photo? We have a couple of species like that here, some of them startlingly beautiful. I always love the veination on the wings. :)

Not metallic; we do get them, but I haven't seen any around here. We do get some bright red ones though, and I really love the softer blue on the above, with the purplish iridescence on the eyes. They are really beautiful. Quite small though. :)

We get some damselflies here that would normally be a beautiful deep blue, but through a twist of genetics they come out a vivid pink instead. :D The whole dragonfly family is quite remarkable. The very biggest here a good 8-9 cm long, though the smaller species tend to be far faster and more agile fliers.
