[PotD] Thylacine.
Jan. 15th, 2013 09:53 pmNot such a great day today,
and struggled to think of a subject for today's photo of the day as a result.
Hunting through the house I found this thylacine in repose,
a lovely gift from a good friend.
I have an elusive but wonderful connection to thylacine,
and they are part of my earthsong.

Date: 2013-01-15 07:02 pm (UTC)Thylacines have a special place in my heart...I often think they have something to tell me, totemically, but I've never been able to get in touch with one.
I suppose that's a bit metaphorical. LOL

They can be very elusive, and I do think it's a part of their totemic energy in general. The people I know who have had them as totems or guides have actually - almost always - reported a kind of distance or elusiveness, a 'there and not there.'

>> They're wonderful animals in general. <<
Agreed. Did you ever see the rendition in Janet Kagan's Mirabile stories? There was a plot spanning several of them that began with the Kangaroo Rex, and people eventually discovered that the end result was going to be a Tasmanian wolf.
>> It drives me nuts that we killed them all. :/ <<
Me too. Well, presumably killed them all. Thylacines are on the list of cryptids that people still occasionally report seeing. *chuckle* My favorite there was a story in an anthology of lycanthropy fiction, in which the thylacines were hiding by shifting into the shape of other animals. Because in cryptozoology, there's a theory that people don't know there are still thylacines because they get mistaken for kangaroos.
That sort of thing is why I gave my thylacines crypsis powers.
