Well.
This is not the 'official' post for this illustration,
since I have yet to get the piece professionally scanned.
But in the meantime, I thought I might put up a photo
that highlighted the iridescence / shiny.
This piece has a LOT of shiny.
It's also the darkest colour scheme I've ever worked with.
This is an intensely personal piece, and will not be sold; though prints will be made available. Possibly limited edition prints - I haven't decided yet.

I *adore* this. The light and dark, the contrast, all the shiny, the wise look in melanistic fox's eyes and how it all seems to glow from some inner place. I also love how you can make fairly monochromatic colours schemes look so... natural.

If only the prints could also be so shiny. :D

I love the shiny. I put more shiny than is reasonable in this piece. I mean, mica and metallic paint and iridescent ink. If it shone, I put it in there. :D

Eee thank you! Prints should be happening by the end of the week, I think. I'll probably offer the photo prints as normal on DA, and then source some higher quality prints for a Limited Edition. :)

One of the treasures of your work is that as much as I adore the roughs & linework before you go in with details & texture, it still has the same liveliness when it is done. How you manage to not make something that feels busy when there is so much going on is a mystery I am happy to wonder at.

Wow, thank you. Smoothing out busyness is something I enjoy, but I don't always get it right. This piece actually confounded me for about a month while I tried to figure out how to make the colour scheme *work* and it's just really awesome to hear that the colour scheme / final piece is working for others as well.

Oh, it's very beautiful =). The color scheme is wonderful, and I like how you did the translucent look of the wind, plus the wind gives the image a nice sense of flowing movement throughout.

This is *glorious*. Absolutely amazing! I love everything about it, from the branches in the background to the plants in the front, and the leaves blowing in the wind. You've also managed to capture the fox's habitual expression beautifully. I don't know how much contact you've had with the animal itself, but their habitual expression is one of lively intelligence behind a shield of wary calm. I'm thrilled to hear that you might be offering limited edition (giclee ?) prints of this one, because it's something I'd definitely consider acquiring myself.

I've actually seen quite a few foxes. There are so many here in Australia that they can actually be more common here than in places where they are naturally wild and belong in the ecosystem. :D

It's very luminous in person. It won't come up in the scan very well, but lamost every single angle highlights something different, especially with the mica.

I don't know why but the white windy bit just reminds me of this bit in a cartoon where the wind buffets the animal in the same way and he just goes "hmmm" and blinks and ignores it.
