Phew! Last but definitely not least;
one of my favourite places in the whole world,
even more than all these other 'favourite places in the whole world' that I've been posting.
Currently nuking dinner as well,
cabanossi curry and pasta!
Boranup karri forest.

The spirit of this particular karri tree moved me so much I actually became teary (in a good way).

Tired feet! Time to go home!

And that's it! Thanks for your patience with the swathe of photos, hope you enjoyed them! :)

Date: 2012-08-15 02:31 pm (UTC)I wish we had trees that mature around here. My city previously (several decades ago) was very polluted and looked like a moonscape. They did an immense re-greening and it is very green now, but all of our trees are, as far as trees go, very young. It's a very different feel from most forests. So stuff like this always makes me very happy. :)

Date: 2012-08-15 07:06 pm (UTC)Your forests are all so comparatively bare of underbrush to my eye. Much more "open" than our forest here. (Though of course that doesn't automatically translate to "easy to travel through" depending on the ground.)

Date: 2012-08-18 12:13 am (UTC)The first: There was a massive fire that ripped uncontrollably through the Boranup karri forest about three years ago, and the understorey hasn't recovered. The reason for this - partly - is that karri forests weren't 'built to burn' like a lot of other eucalyptus and their understoreys. So, the understorey isn't accurately represented.
The second: This is a stand of immature karri with an immature understorey. Old-growth karri forest is much more dense (so dense, I actually struggled to get photos of it last year, because it was just a wall of green higher than head-height).
