It's the right time of year
for bachelor groups of unattached ravens to be forming.
So we had a gentle, small group behind our house today.
I stayed and watched them,
while Maybe watched me.

Our corvids here have only been really active for the last couple of weeks, and I've seen two mating flights. Those bachelor groups always make me smile because (at least for the local species) they always give the impression of looking for mischief.

Heh, our bachelor groups tend to be a bit more sedate when they're in the trees (though they will engage in play from time to time, and can be very playful in the building sites); but the ones in the morning mostly just engage in communal singing with each other. It's very nice to wake up to. Unlike their general alarm calls and 'where's my mate?' calls, they're quiet and unified.

Birds are fun to watch this time of year. Until they get RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR during their testosterone-induced bouts of speed flying D:

We don't get much 'speed flying' from the Australian ravens here. Though magpie larks will often attack their reflections in tinted windows at intersections.

I got the upbeat as well, but I preferred this one. It looked so focused, like an arrow heading straight for its destination.
