They are crudely drawn mice! Normally I would have gone for realism, but I really didn't want realism in the mice this time.

I don't think I commented on this one when you posted the pencils, but I do love it so. I don't know the story behind it at all (if you posted that, I admit that I missed it), but the general idea of an octopus with a purse and a lollipop is wonderful.

Thank you so much. :) I haven't shared much of the story, but it's a pretty dark piece. I'm halfway through colouring, and it's been pretty intense so far. :)

Although a lot of the symbolism in the piece strikes me as very powerful, there is something very visceral about the mice (and the hands augment that). Gives me the creeps, like I can feel each little crawl, and hundreds of little nips, swarming over my body. And yet, when I think of mice, I think of prey animals, and it then makes me think he's (the octopus has) captured them, that they're victims, even if it is just clothing. This piece could easily inspire a spooky horror story. *nods*

I was thinking that of the mice as well, particularly the latter interpretation.

That's awesome re: the mice symbolism, I was trying to go for a creepiness factor, and it's good to know that they sort of evoke that.

Also I find octopi creepy, and the fill black thing you do always clues me in that something very, very dark is happening (like toxicity in Cone Shell). So there are more ways than one that this ups the creepiness factor.

I am really struck by the climbing, writhing darkness in the lower half... The bag, of course is still charming, but everything else certainly has captured the darkness you meant to convey.

I'd like to explore more with solid blocked out sections in black like that, I've never gone that far before because it would ruin too many fineliners, but I made the leap to black acrylic and I really like the effect.

Very intense. I feel as if it's drawing me in but I am reluctant about going. I keep looking at the fox buckle. Just awesome and eerie all rolled into one.

Nah seriously, they're fine. I took my time, and didn't try and do it all in one day.

That's coming along really nicely; how long did the inking take? Did you wish you could just use the little can o' paint icon in MS Paint (or whatever) to just fill in all the black at the bottom? ;)

I'm not sure how long the inking took (I don't count hours), but honestly, probably not that long. This has been one of the least 'detailed' inks I've done in a while, because I used black acrylic on the bottom and there's no stippling. I expect the colouring to take a while to compensate.

Oh wouldn't it be nice to use the paintbucket function? :D I used black acrylic though, so it made it faster.

(The other thing I keep thinking when I see this, thanks to so much of my life wasted on memebase, is I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going...)
