I'd say peafowl,
but they really are just all peacocks.
Only peacocks in this one;
the rest of the photos are coming tomorrow.
I'm tired, you see.







I had never seen peacocks fighting before; and the lighting was very dim at this point (nearing sunset, and very overcast), nonetheless I loved the motion. All those trailing feathers. This is a white and blue peacock duking it out.





I love this one. I know, I know, not in focus. But the swirls of colour, the sense of movement, I'm just in love.

White peacocks are stunning; less iridescence, but beautiful.

*nods* I think it's because I see them less often than the "standard" peacocks that makes them so damned interesting to me.

He was actually really on edge; the white peacock was the primary aggressor, and kept circling him. Even if he was bigger! He was on the defensive.

I was looking at the tails, the white one has a much shorter tail.

But the behavior you described is interesting, makes me wonder how the females respond (if there are any).

Wow! They are such handsome birds, and their plumage is in great condition. The photos are fantastic, especially those that show the contrast between the white bird and the blue one; they make the white one look unreal.

Yes, the second one with the motion reminded me of like abstract art or something. I mean, imagine getting that motion against a black backdrop. I'd frame it!

They have really amazing legs. They're such an awkward shape to fit on the camera (I find, anyway), but in person it's just...incredible. They are such robust birds, but so graceful too.

What gorgeous photos, especially of the India BLue! Peacocks or peafowl have been a prominent part of my life for all of my life, but only the last couple of years have they really made themselves so intensely known. Someone recently said that I must be a secret devotee of the Peacock Angel, Melek Taus.

Hell, given how much they have been appearing lately, I just might be! ;)

You would love Caversham. They have a healthy, robust, incredible population of both white and blue Indian peafowl, and they are beautiful additions to the park. We also have a feral (seriously) population of Indian peafowl at the University of Western Australia. Heh.

I love both photos where the birds are flying up as the fight (once with the white one in the air, the next with the blue). It really reminds me of the depiction of the phoenix in Chinese art. :)

I really do wish the photos had been clearer (it was the best I could do without a flash, and I hate using flash on animals, it's unpleasant enough for human animals who at least can be warned in advance); but as they are, I just love that sense of motion.
