Thylacine - Resistance

Keywords:

Time Transience. Embracing the Unknown, and Accepting the Unknown. Moving Between Past, Present and Future. The Secrets of Rock Caves and Initiation. The Solitary Hunter. Keeping Secrets Hidden. Resistance.

General Description:

The thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger or wolf, was a carnivorous marsupial of Australia, it is not a dog. It had a heavy, thickset head, and a long tail like that of a kangaroo. It has been depicted bipedally, using its tail as a prop, and closely resembles a kangaroo when making this pose. It had a backwards opening pouch for the raising of offspring. The thylacine was thought to prey on wallabies, echidnas and other vertebrates, though there is little data confirming this. It preferred hilly, scrubby habitat and forests weren't likely it's preferred habitat. It was mostly shy and silent. There is much conjecture over whether the thylacine is extinct or not, though in mainstream science the thylacine is extinct, though $1.25 million is still offered to anyone who can bring in a safely captured thylacine.

Lessons and Challenges:

Please remember that if this animal is contacting you, it will often be the best resource for teaching you what its lessons are. What I write is only intended to be a guide, it is not absolute, nor is it infallible.

- One of the key lessons of the thylacine, which applies in this world and in the otherworlds, is the concept of time transience. The idea that we are occupying our past, present and future at any one time. The thylacine, thought to be extinct, occupies the past in the minds of many. To others who believe it is alive, it occupies the present. And to those who wish to discover or clone it, it occupies the future. Yet it is not 'material' in any one of these. We cannot reach out to a past thylacine and touch it, we cannot locate the thylacine in the present and touch it, and nor can we know that the future thylacine is a promise, instead of a dream.

This transience, and ability to be present everywhere, without being material, represents many aspects of our lives. Our immaterial dreams and hopes, as well as our fears often resist becoming material. When thylacine appears, she suggests that they may not become material for some time, and continue to occupy places where we might not be able to grasp them.

- Thylacine teaches us to embrace and accept the unknown. Some mysteries we will never learn, and we have to let them go. In accepting the unknown and respecting that it should remain 'unknown', we let go, and our lives become more rich.

- Thylacine represents the secrets of rock caves and initiation. Her spirit inhabits the rock cave, and she teaches us the dark initiations that force us to face the true nature of ourselves and the spirit. Sometimes these initiations are met with frustration and we do not grow, at other times we move into the next level of our lives, with greater understanding of mysteries acknowledged, and new mysteries to be observed.

- Thylacine is the solitary hunter. She teaches us how to achieve our goals alone, but also teaches us to take joy in this solitude.

- Thylacine teaches us that some secrets need to stay hidden. Thylacine teaches us the opposite of opening up, she comes into our lives to teach us how to keep ourselves, or parts of ourselves hidden. As soon as we expose the parts of ourselves that need to remain hidden, we risk destroying them, and thylacine warns us against being too open, or being an 'open-book.'

- The thylacine teaches us resistance. How to resist exposure. How to resist being discovered. And how the unknown resists us. And how sometimes, what we feel we need to know, is something we actually have no right knowing at all. We are not put on this earth to know everything about ourselves, or the world around us. Remember how small you are in the grand scheme of things, and how big the world around you. And remember how precious you are, and resist other people's attempts to harm and injure you, as thylacine may still be resisting others today.

The Shadow Aspects

The shadow totem is the animal we often fear irrationally, that teaches us things about ourselves that are profound and difficult to confront. Often the traits we fear most within the shadow totem, are the traits that we dislike in ourselves. We must scrutinise why this is, and learn how to work with them.

- People who dislike or fear thylacine, really resent not being able to get what they want, when they want it. They have real problems with resistance, and sometimes wonder why people don't just 'want' to share their deepest and darkest secrets with them. They are often people who create problems in friendships and relationships when someone chooses to keep something 'quiet', not understanding or respecting the boundaries of another. These people have the tough lesson of learning about the personal boundaries of others, and in the process, learning about their own personal boundaries. They may have in the past experienced a betrayal of their own boundaries, and see no reason why others should have to have theirs.

Communion:

Like all animal helpers, this animal will only appear when right and appropriate, and cannot be forced to visit you, commune with you, or share messages with you. Living in Australia is a plus, and living near rock outcrops, limestone caves or caves is another bonus, but if not using your visualisation to contact thylacine doesn't hurt. In the visualisation, it's best if you imagine yourself outside of a cave that is a thylacine den. Wait for an invitation to enter, but if you receive none, leave an offering (usually a live animal in the visualisation) and move on. Spirit thylacine prefers live prey, and offering it dead meat is a bit of an insult. If you want to offer it something in real life to simply honour it, consider funding cave heritage sites, or offer it something simple like a bowl of water.

This is a very reticent animal, who often doesn't come when 'called' spiritually. It often presents itself to people, and those who have been touched by thylacine energy know about it - regardless of whether they're spiritual or not.

6 to go...

I like how you touch on the shadow aspects. I think it presents a really balanced approach to working with the spirits.

thank you. I find the idea of working with 'shadow' aspects with animals (or anything, really), quite interesting. It sort of grew out of my observations that a lot of pagans are often scared of, or dislike, a lot of animals that I would consider not immediately scary (like spiders or snakes which are more understandable). And so from there I thought maybe I could explore that in my writings. :D

Aw, I'm glad I have met you too, actually. I think you have managed to take a history that would destroy so many other people, and turn it into a life that at times, is darkly beautiful.

*nods* It took quite a while picking out the colours actually, because I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to do it at first - the whole thing was originally meant to be in white / blue / cream. So it sort of... took a radical departure from that. Lol.

Awww awesome, yeah I'm a total thylacine fangirl too. I really wanted a close up on thylacine's face, so I decided to make up for that by doing his back stripes in the background, and still including them as a design feature, and I'm kind of chuffed about that. Heh.

*nods* I think thylacine has a really interesting energy, and it can be elusive to some people, even though it's still appealing.

Thylacine has grabbed me well and truly though. I've drawn this guy a few times before, and I still like the old illustration... I just wanted to draw him again.

The fur took a while, lol. I did the same sort of thing with camel, but it's harder to see because I whacked so much colour on top of the fine-liner.

And thylacines rock the casbah! :D

Beautiful mixing of natural and ethereal kinds of colours, and just gorgeous work in general. Maybe it's kind of silly to say, but I'm so excited for you -- you've gotten so close to finished on this deck, and I know it's going to be even more amazing as a whole than it is in its parts. I'm looking forward to seeing it all together, and I think you're so awesome for all the progress you've made on it (and, during and through that, with yourself) so far.
