Progress.
The costumes are always a bit time-consuming,
more because I'm not sure what elements I'm going to include;
so it's an organic process.
With the exception of the sleeves, I knew how I wanted them to look. :)

I am completely stuck on Mrs. Finch's left sleeve. It is *incredible*. It's a shame pastels don't ship well, because the richness you bring to these pieces is extraordinary.

Wow, the depth of color on the sleeve. And blue fire foxes, maybe? Eee!

The hard thing is, I see your incredible costumes and then I itch to make them, and I don't think I have that much skill, or time. I'd need to learn piecework, or embroidery, or both.

But oh, how I would love to see one of those full-size.

My eyes just threw the switch on me and showed me hatching foxes, rather than blue fire.

I have this dream that one day I'll have an exhibition where my Wandsuna artwork is in one area, and an artistic textile maker has re-created the costumes in another corner. I'd SO love to wear one. They're kind of shapeless and robe-y, but that's what I like about them too, in a way.

Oh! That's awesome. I mean they are meant to be hatching; but I love when the eye sees different things. That is awesome.

The sleeve was a hell of a lot of fun (three colours only, whee!), and Mr. Finch's will be similar, except in a slightly different shade of brown. With pastels, you often have to work from the inside out if a piece is done by section, like this. Otherwise it just gets smeared all over the place.

I have shipped a full-sized pastel piece to the UK before, and it actually shipped okay. There's a small amount of dust that comes off in the process, but if it's packed with glassine attached (grainless paper - like baking paper, but smoother), rolled tightly and then attached to the actual postage roll itself to prevent slippage; it does okay. The roll falls out naturally after about a week, on a flat surface, weighed down at the edges (and it falls out completely once framed; because of the nature of pastel paper). And I have a feeling it would also do fine adhered between two pieces of board -> but I actually think that would create a bit more dust loss.

Pastel pigment makes me so happy. It's the most vividly pigmented medium in the art world; aside from using pure pigment itself. Although it varies per brand. The red in the top Finch's face is Schminke - and that is one of the highest qualities in the world. That's why it's the brightest thing on there. It's pretty much just pure pigment.

Aw thank you! *blush* I was lucky that I had my Grandpa to teach me a few tricks; though most of the tricks he taught me were about landscaping; so maybe I should try landscaping in pastels again to see how that goes!

Robes, sure, but with such detail! The flow of the fabric over a body would give even more depth to them, I think.

I've worked with pastels before, and have never gotten anywhere near the depth of color or detail you've accomplished here.

Yep, pastels! :D I've used my pencil/pen style twice, but all the rest have been in pastels.

I can't take full credit for the depth of colour, I do use really good brands. But as for the detail, my malleable eraser is my bestest ever friend. :D

I've passed this picture like four times and every time I look at it - it seems like there are new colors, like the picture is adding more depth to itself! I experience this with oracle and tarot cards too. And a poster I had of a bunch of spiritual stuff. :3
