I'm a big fan of rescuing animals, and currently, Pedigree is running a short series called 'Underdogs' developed with Pet Rescue, which is about the pet rescue process in Australia, and about finding pets homes, and about dispelling the myths associated with rescue dogs.

The first two episodes have come out, and they're lovely:

Episode 1 - Underdogs.

Episode 2 - Underdogs.

:) As an owner on my third rescue dog, and as someone who was once involved in rescue, this makes me *ridiculously* happy. Thanks for sharing it!

Edited to add that your link to PetRescue is bobbled -- it goes to a dreamwidth link under your name, with the PR link after.

Heh. I'd already manually fixed it an have been browsing. All I can say is, it's a good thing they're there and I'm here, or Cyrus would possibly have a brother out of today's noodling on the internet. There are some *nice* GSDs, including at least one working line. I'm also really ticked off at the dogs "bred by one of the best breeders in NSW". If the breeder was so great they'd be taking back the dogs and rehoming them themselves. And with four (and counting) from the same source, they're obviously shit about who they sell pups to. Look at this nice sable dog! I'm relieved he's "on trial".

I wouldn't pick Schipperkes as a hugely popular breed, much less one where there would be multiples being rehomed at once... :D

Three or four a month is in contrast with *none* here. I think I've seen a total of four Schipperkes in the last decade here, and they're not common at home either. Perhaps more in the more northern parts of Europe, and Belgium of course. I can certainly understand the breed being popular, they're a stellar little dog. And maybe it's the boating association that makes them popular with Australians?

Heh. And with a Newf in your climate you'd want a mostly carpeted household, too, otherwise you'd risk breaking your neck slipping in the drool puddles... :D Looking at this fellow was an amusing diversion because his slimmer face and build reminds me of how Cyrus was before he filled out.

Heh. And of course while I don't doubt that you've made 100% the right decision in re: the dog you're getting, now that you've committed to it, here's a smooth collie and a Keeshond (though the Kees isn't cat-friendly). Funny how that works, yes?

I'm hoping that soon we'll be able to get a dog, and looking at rescue ones. The problem is I have a specfic breed in mind, which makes it difficult. Too many dogs seem to be of the bull-breed type over here (Staffies and such) and though I don't blame the dog, they aren't what I'm looking for. We tend to have a problem with inbreeding in GSDs which make their behaviour unstable unless you know what you're doing. I find the situation with rescue dogs irritating in that there aren't enough decent homes for them and too many dogs which need rehoming due to people being ignorant or wanting them as a "fashion" accessory. Sometimes even when you give people advice and information on how they should look after their dog they just ignore it.
