In good news, there are WAY more jewel beetles this year than previous years, and part of that is we leave them alone to do their thang. But you know, from the amount of THANGING going on this year, our house is going to be overrun with jewel beetles next year!

Also, this means it doesn't matter what August thinks; it's definitely Spring! For anyone curious, these are from the Anoplognathus family. If you want a specific species, you can always buy me some really good 'insects of Western Australia' identification books, considering the hundreds of jewel beetles in Australia. ;)

Beautiful beetles! And heh! to the rampant fornication. This means many more beetles, and is therefore also a beautiful thing. :D Do they only like those yellow flowers, or are they also on other plants?

They only like certain (local) species of Acacia, which is actually why I put them in my garden! In the hopes of attracting them; I was very successful. *grin*

Hee, yeah, that was my pattern when I was taking their photographs. I literally saw one, and then another one, and then suddenly I chanced on like 4 mating couples on the same branch and was like 0.0, and then I laughed. My neighbours must have thought I was insane.

And they would, of course, be correct. :)

Isn't it more like thousands of Jewel beetles in Australia? The black bugs are out here, but they don't even occur down were I used to live in Calwell, just 30k away as the crow flys by helicopter. I wish a certain dog hadn't destroyed my fledgling garden, I am to scared he will do it again to plant anything in the back yard (also lack of money, spent it on more important things). I might use some of my birthday cash on a plant or two.

I loathe Summer too. I try and find nice things about it, but mostly I want it to be rain and be cold for 9 months of the year. Followed by 3 months of a very mild Spring. Lol. SO not suited to Perth!

You've got swoopy magpies? The magpies around here are pretty good; so I still walk a lot in Summer.

I like... Uhm. Longer days/more sun? But that's honestly about all. Even though I was born in January. I don't like heat or bugs or the extra critters that come out. I'm not so convinced we actually have Autumn or Spring though, not for more than a week or two. Aside from the crazy birds.

We do. I was swooped badly four times in three years. It's given me a complex. One chased me under a car port and into the house even though I was a few blocks away from it's nest, and I cut my arms up when I fell and my knees. Me no likely cranky birds. So yes. Outside terrifies me a little come spring/early summer.
