Still resting up with my finger, so no artwork today either.
But my frames arrived!
They actually sent D-rings with them this time, so if I want, I can get them all D-ringed up for gallery framing. Which is nice, as this is eventually where I want them to go. (If any gallery will have me, that is).

Wandsuna - Remember?; I am pleasantly surprised with how well this illustration looks framed with the cream matt-board. Success!

They look amazing framed. The matt-board colors work really well with their respective artwork.

I'm still not sure about that dark red, but I couldn't see a really bright turquoise (which I would have preferred), so I went with that instead. I think it's okay, for now. Heh. But I'm definitely a fan of the cream!

Also - at first, I thought those squids were penises. I was like, O_O. But... not penises. Not at all.

Currently frameshop.com.au; I actually prefer Framecor, but they're a bit more expensive, and right now my income declares I use the cheaper option.

May I ask you to explain the mythology of the one with all the rabbits?

Unfortunately, I don't explain the Wandsuna series or it's mythology to people; preferring to - at least with this particular series - to subscribe to a Japanese form of interpretation which is that the author of the artwork keeps their views out of it (aside from that which holds within the actual illustration itself), and allows the audience to form their own opinions on what the piece means, and those opinions are not wrong.

Fair enough. But can you at least tell me what "Wandsuna" means?

(Rabbit is one of my personal totems, and I had pet rabbits as part of my household for a long time.)

Wandsuna was originally a portmanteau of two words - wandjina and kitsune. But it's become it's own signifier of this particular style, now; which generally always features a fox (or kitsune), a rich costume, a figure, and in the past, a wandjina.

I think I have the full account of them here (though there's a few extra pastel pictures there which aren't Wandsuna).

Unfortunately, the bulk of them were destroyed due to PTSD 'things,' so the person I live with keeps them under his bed now, so that I can't get to them.

I've worked with rabbit symbolically, outside of the totem artwork, a fair bit though. Like Rabbit Girl, which comes with its own myth/story.

Heh. "Don't mess with rabbits,", indeed! Not only do they outnumber you, but they have to be clever - they're not big or ferocious, so they have to use their speed and their wits to survive. In some cultures, Rabbit is the Trickster. But the first lesson to learn from Rabbit is that rabbits always survive. Everything that eats other animals eats rabbits... but we never run out of rabbits, do we?

Living rabbits aren't brilliant conversationalists, but they're great listeners. I used to tell my pet rabbits whatever was bothering me, and they'd sit there with their little pink noses going up and down, up and down... and eventually I'd see what a profound answer that was...

The framing and matting really makes them shine... And I can't believe how much of a visceral hit I still get out of Wandsuna - Remember?. It really is just such a powerful piece...

I actually really like the dark red mat with Foxes Don't Cry -- you'd think it would clash with the orange of the foxes, but instead it just makes the artwork look richer. The cream is an interesting, subtle choice with Remember?. I would have expected something more dramatic, like a black mat, but the cream really works.

Huh, matting in color - I recall, perhaps wrongly, that it was best to mat in a neutral color like cream, gray or white/off white. But the red/rust color on the foxes actually enhances the image. Maybe that was wrong, or just bad information from 20 odd years ago.

Turned out nice though!
