I have a question about the doves.

Here in the UK we refer to those types of dove as pigeons, and they are seen as vermin. It's quite sad. Is that the case in Australia?

Yeah pretty much, my Dad used to call them 'rats of the sky.' And they are pigeons I think, I never know the difference. Lol. The ones at Hawkin's park looked pretty healthy, and there weren't too many, the ones in the city look pretty miserable. :/

Doves and pigeons are essentially the same thing. Generally dove is used to describe the smaller ones.

Columba livia is the rock dove, rock pigeon, feral pigeon, racing pigeon, mail carrier pigeon etc.

We have loads of pigeons here. Kind of every major metropolis in the U.S. What's funny is that the occasional white dove will escape during a wedding or magic show & so you'll see Vegas pigeons splotched with white patches.

Yep, we call them pigeons in Adelaide, though other parts of Australia may not. The terms pigeon and dove are fairly interchangeable, and they are actually the same family of bird, just some species are 'dove' and some 'pigeon' even though neither is really wrong *shrugs*.

The feral rock pigeon/dove (like the one in P's photo) are a pest in Adelaide, and there is actually a guy who is paid by the council to trap them, though they aren't here in anywhere near the numbers of the UK and US. These are the birds used by TAFE in necropsy pracs for teaching vet nurses, because they have to be humanely euthanased because of their pest status. And vets and shelters aren't allowed to release them if they are bought to us as wildlife for treatment. It's illegal and we can be fined heavily for it - and rock pigeons aren't the only species under that law :(

So pretty! Have some really beautiful shots up there.

Or it might just because they're all birds. >___>

I read that as "Glen's Gloose" at first, and now my mind won't say it right. XD

More lovely, lovely pictures. I'm envious of the parrot-types you have locally, even if the lorikeets are a pest. And that swan is amazingly photogenic. ^_^

I remember when we had cockatoos that we had a Corella and a Galah. I think we called the Corella a Goffin though. I think. Gosh it was so long ago...*scratches head*

*Wikis*

Oooooh, the Goffins are a subspecies of Corella.

This was the most useless comment ever. :(

Pretty photos though! <3
