Rainbow Lorikeets - well, they may be a pest, but they look damned good. Loud bastards though.





This little guy below was with a partner who would hop back every now and then. The partner spent most of its time hollowing out, or increasing the hollow in a branch, while he kept watch. They kept calling to each other and it was really quite cute.

Very nice shots! I recently saw a PBS Nature documentary called the Parrots of OZ which was wonderful. I learned more than ever about the Parrot Clan, who I admit I haven't really thought much on. My fave had to be the species whose males use drumsticks to attract mates to the nests they've selected.

yeah that's a black cockatoo species, aren't they awesome? so black cockatoo covers 'drumming' in the deck, of course, because i can't think of many other animals that actively drum in order to attract a mate. lol. or any, for that matter. *grin*

Gods I hate lorries. And yet I loves them. They are so beautiful but such loud pain in the ass bastards to handle! And rainbow lorries are the worst of the lot. *rolls her eyes* They're a pest here too really, though a native one *Sighs*

They really are pugnacious little devils, aren't they? I've had several in rehab for quite a while now and they still screech at me and try to bite at every opportunity even though I feed them and care for them singlehandedly... and they know I feed them. They recognise me, yet still act like twits. The little snots. :-)

The scaly-breasted are slightly nicer; a tad less screaming and they will make nice when they see the sweety lori wet drink coming. And musks are nearly tame in comparision!

Yes musks are much nicer! We only tend to see musks or rainbows here, and I just hate handling the buggers. They always screech and twist and bite and lay on their back so you can't grab them... too smart for their own good! lol.

It is so weird to see candid home shots taken in places where parrots fly around in flocks. To me, parrots are animals that live in cages at peoples houses or the pet store. Your photos always feel surreal to me!

I saw a wallaby for the first time last week. This lady looked like she was pregnant and wearing overalls. But then her belly started to move. And then a baby kangaroo stuck its head out of the top pocket! It was so cool. I wonder what it is like to see them jumping around outside somewhat normally.

Also, how big are kangaroos?

depends on the type of kangaroo. red kangaroos are the biggest (and the largest mammal / surviving marsupial in australia), males can grow up to 1.8 metres (5'9 feet tall).
