I loved how such detail arises out of your "rough sketches." The piece takes on such depth with the ink!

I was talking to one of my partners today about the incredibly intricacy of your inking and wondered--do you have very steady hands? I have slight tremors and sometimes it gets in the way if I move too quickly / carelessly. Do you have to do the tiny spirals and things slowly?

With inking, it's recommended that one uses very fast movements to overcome tremors (unless the tremors are severe, and then other mediums like painting are recommended). Fast movements encourage a loose movement of the wrist, which is where the movement generally comes from with all artistic strokes (not the fingers, though they can help), and the faster the movement, the more quickly tremor is overcome.

So, generally, my fingers do shake. I overcome some of the problems by resting my hand against what I'm working on for particularly tight details and for the spirals (the paper or board, but I have to make sure my hands aren't sweating too much for this); and for looser lines, I take my hand off the page and use loose, fast wrist movements. It takes years to practice though, because loose + fast =/= controlled lines until a lot of time has passed. But the spirals, for example, are done very quickly. The more I slow down, the more likely they are to show obvious tremor. That said, you can still see tremors in some of my linework if you look closely.

I really, really like the Horned Lark a great deal. The Llama is very charming -- you've captured the animal's softness (and the nose spirals amusingly remind me of one of their weapons-of-choice).

I'm squeeing over Llama's eyelashes. Actually I find everything about the piece super striking -- the stippling on the muzzle, the flowing lines for the hair... SQUEE.
