[Art] Wandsuna - Remember?
Apr. 20th, 2011 12:15 pmI feel like I've been working on this illustration for 4,000 years.
Of course, it hasn't been that long.
I'm exaggerating.

Date: 2011-04-20 05:46 am (UTC)Fragmented thoughts:
For some reason, I expected there to be one rabbit in the background with its eyes open. I don't know what this says, but it's there.
I get a sense of peace from this, which seems at odds with what it is.
Scratch that, I get a sense of peace from the rabbits making up the background. Sleeping? Dead? Untouchable? And from the main rabbit, complete and immense sorrow.
There's something incredibly confronting about it, something that makes me feel as though I'm shattering into pieces looking at it.

And of that Telstra add... to many rabbits in China.

The fact that you used more realistic and earthy colors here makes the picture more eerie and surreal; very cool.

Date: 2011-04-21 04:49 am (UTC)The rabbits, especially the two more realistic ones in the foreground, really stand out with the appearance of their eyes (and the potential emotional messages that can send to the viewer) and the 'softness' of their fur. To me, that creates a striking conflict in my mind as to how to react to the image because my mind wants to view the piece in a more positive, peaceful, or satisfying manner (while sort of mentally ignoring the vomiting aspects of the piece), and simultaneously recognizing the darker, more disturbing aspects. It twists my mind into thinking at the same time "that's such a beautiful image, and the background rabbits look so peaceful" and "that's a very powerful, deep, and dark image".
The silhouetted rabbits in the 'vomit' have a very different style, contrast, and simplicity to them that makes them either stand out in ways from the remainder of the piece (emphasizes them), or can make one's eyes try to 'separate' them from the rest of the image as though they are "not part of it"; but I think that their different style really adds to the overall image and its symbolism. The detail throughout the piece is amazing, along with the color choices and the shading/highlighting.
