I really love seeing your initial sketches and then being able to see the piece as it gets more final. But right now I especially like seeing your sketches because it makes me think, "see, self? you *don't* have to spend 50 hours to get every detail you'll want in the sketch..." Cause, yeah, I do that. >>

Yeah, I just can't do it. The pencil muddies up too much and actually destroys the texture of the illustrator's board for fineliner. So I try and keep things as 'light' as possible (it always makes things interesting when I send compositional sketches to clients, because they lack the spirals and a bunch of other things that make them 'my' artwork, they really are just composition sketches).

If you really enjoy the sketch / preliminary process, you could break it down into doing a mock-up, and then a proper version?

It's not really that I just enjoy doing the sketch process (I do, but...) it's more like I just can't let go or leave it blank. Or like I have to have *everything* there or I won't know what to do, if that makes more sense. It's frustrating.
