[Art] Thoughts.

I'm thinking about starting a mini-totems series, since they'd be originals, but still way more affordable than the 'as totems' series. They would be just under half the size of the current as totems series and so would be 18.5 by 10 centimetres, or 7 x 4 inches. But there's no point if people aren't interested, because then I can just keep going with things like...Steampunk Giant Squid!
But I'm wondering what people prefer to buy with my art. The expensive, epic stuff, or the smaller affordable stuff. So look, here's a poll!

Date: 2010-07-21 11:21 am (UTC)I like the "as totems" series priced around $80. This doesn't seem an unreasonable price to me, especially since you're willing to work with two separate payments, deposit and upon completion. I love the piece I commissioned from you for my Dad, and would consider getting one from you for my Mom too. :)
I would also be interested in the cheaper mini-totems series, because while I will gladly pay $80 for gifts, I have a hard time justifying this expense for myself. I would love to have a smaller, more affordable option. :)

Date: 2010-07-21 12:49 pm (UTC)I do buy your prints from time to time, especially around November (and I think I've bought the most from the Oracle Deck). They are wonderful to frame and give as gifts or hang around the house, and very affordable.
Here's my take on mini totems, and it may sound a little strange and old fashioned. I know the appeal with the minitotems is affordability, but I think somehow it works out better if you sell a few larger pieces as opposed to several small pieces. An artist on my flist started creating smaller projects to sell for less to cater to individuals without a lot of free spending money, but gave up after a couple of months and now lives on commissions. The small stuff didn't sell very well, and it took the focus away from her more elaborate pieces.
If I were well off, like... not agonizing over purchasing a $300 freezer (or freaking out because I recently signed up to donate $15 a month to support Amnesty International), I would buy your larger pieces. There's no doubt in my mind. And I would rather save up to buy your larger pieces than spend $35+ here and $35+ there on mini totems.

Date: 2010-07-21 03:58 pm (UTC)I'd really LOVE to commission you for a few original large pieces at some point. :)
I wanted to mention that I love the herbal and fruit 'totems' you've done so far. Lemon is one of my favorites.

Date: 2010-07-21 08:36 pm (UTC)I always love to have the orginal art so, I think I mostly would go for a mini totem or/and "as totem" art. But it also depend on the art you're trying to sell :3 I will always love some more than others.

Date: 2010-07-22 05:15 am (UTC)If/when I get a better-paying job though, I want to invest in some larger images as well. If I hadn't lost my last good-paying job, I would have likely saved up enough to buy an original of a larger picture... or to commission an "as totem" pic! Ah.

Date: 2010-07-22 10:18 pm (UTC)But, I think the minis are a good idea if you can make them worth your time financially. It's not just a price thing for buyers, sometimes you just don't need (or want) a huge wham of animalenergy, sometimes you want that smaller piece.
I also, as you probably know, think the larger ones need to omfgcontinue. I am just not as likely to buy one because I am not going to be able to afford them as often. One day, unless it's sold, Red Riding Hood WILL be mine. And the oracle deck, if that wild horse original was still there I would buyitsodamnfast and to hell with consequences.
... So, I have a section I would be most likely to buy and think is fantastic, but I think the rest are great ideas and hope you do keep chucking them out. Some of us will *not* forget them when we finally save up!
