The rufous hare wallaby, also known as the Mala, has the scientific name Lagorchestes hirsutus (meaning: hairy dancing-hare). They were once listed as Endangered, and have since been downgraded to Vulnerable.
Attempts are being made to re-establish the rufous hare wallaby in the Tanami desert. It currently has populations on Bernier and Dorre islands off the coast of Western Australia.
They are solitary, nocturnal creatures. They are small and gratuitously cute...
