I really like this - the bronzey olivey colors don't normally appeal to me, but you've made it very appealing. It has that Art Deco kind of flair to it.

And... if you turn it upside down, it looks like a mud-monster.

A lovely picture for an awesomely named little critter. I love the way you've done the colours, and the pose of Hellbender Salamander.

Now, he is gorgeous! I love the colour scheme; very earthy whilst still having elements of fire. Fantastic! :)

Bah-hah-hah, there he is!! I'm gonna go grab me one some day. I have decided this. Probably wish I hadn't, but there you go.

They're really, really neat. Frickin' meter long salamander! w00t!! And you made him look so...so...so nice. I love it!! Eeeeee!

Ooooh I LOVE this. You'd think that silver and olive and bronze would be kinda drab but it works beautifully and I really really really like this one!!

*nod!* I'll agree. All the cool colours and the muted grey-green-browns and whites do something very different. It's more...restful? Not quite sure what the word is, because the pose and the way the swirlies extend from the head like ripples and eddies of water into the black swath makes it more dynamic. Combined with the large central circle on top of his head, you get an impression of great power in the head of the salamander. Hellbender looks powerful. (Sort of like it just stomped down and water and debris are swirling around a bit. Or like it's exhaling something.)

I like the two streaks of pale green and blue. If the dominant colour scheme suggests the kind of background and habitat hellbenders prefer, then those two streaks bring to mind the clear waters and surrounding area of the stream he'd be in. They're a good accent/contrast. The black makes me think a bit of their nocturnal preferences--but it also showcases the dark gold spirals and eddies extremely well.

Where do you see the fire? I'm curious. Is it in the way the background shades to more yellows closer to the hellbender, or something else?

I need to be able to carry you around in my backpack or something. *grins*

I like the two streaks of pale green and blue.

I needed something to 'refresh' the piece. The murkiness suits Hellbender, but all that murkiness, at the end of the day, comes from clear water before the dirt hits it.

I love the faded denim blues and olive greens for the background. The ornate gold design is lovely. If Hellbender asked for it out of concern about seeming "ugly" it certainly added a touch of majesty and mystery to it. 'Course I tend to be sympathetic to critters that make others go "yuck".

To me the fire is in the swirls that surround him.

Something foreign and powerful in this one.

I see the fire in the background -- the swirls, combining with the peach/yellow colours, instantly give me the impression of flames. Also, I like the decorative loops and lines around the Salamander himself; those are primordial and powerful.

Does that help? :)

I dunno about a travel-sized version of me, but if I ever have the chance go to to Aussie, I'll be sure it's the west coast so I kin visit you and maybe go bushwalking and stuff.
