I dunno if it's just me or what, but your spirals seem to get more and more complex each time you do them. I can't imagine how much patience it must take ><
Do you have a list somewhere of the requests you're gonna do? I can't wait to see what animal you're doing next.

Oooooh. How did you do the brown and black spots? Those are lovely.

The black spots were in the basic ink outline. And then I went over that with brown and grey watercolour pencil, leaving some white spots in. Then I washed that out to give a solid colour, and then went over it *again* in brown / grey regular pencil to give it a sense of texture.

The feather pattern took the longest out of everything with this one actually. But I like the way it looks now. :)

Your work just keeps getting better and better. I know I keep saying that, but it keeps being true! I compare this with even the original Wolf I have of yours, and while the Wolf is lovely, technically speaking this just blows it out of the water.

Actually there are some animals like wolf and a few other 'classics' that I want to revisit with my newer style now. But when my next 'request an animal because I'm bored' post comes up, I'm sure I will get some classics then.

Hippo's look weird (I'm doing the sketch for hippo now).

Weird weird hippos.

Yeah, they do. Sort of like a rhino and a pig mated, but with an accidental injection of frog DNA somewhere along the line. Still, don't laugh at the hippos. I think, if I recall correctly, that more people along the Nile died from hippos than crocs.

Yes!!! Isn't it pygmy hippos that kill more people than lions a year? I'm probably remembering that wrong, but I'd never mess with a hippo. I'm kind of glad they're not a guide of mine! I have my hands full with wolverine. Heh.

I like the frog idea! You're right, they do have a lot of froggishness to them. :D

They're the most deadly animal to zookeepers I hear...more die from hippo attacks than any other zoo animal!

I have literally just sat here staring at this one for the last few minutes. I'm not usually drawn to owls, but this one really speaks to me.

O RLY?

Yeah, I had to go there, lol.

I like your owl. You do birds so well! I know if I ever saw a bird in the wild that you had done a painting of, I could identify it with fair certainty.

:O!!!

3-toed sloth?! An ocelot?

I'm in love NOW and you haven't drawn them yet! :D I can't wait to see this list come to life!

You know, there are times I check the lj specifically to see if you've put up a new critter. Your art has become one of my favorite things ever on the internet and I now have an answer to surveys that ask for your favorite artist.
I've also enjoyed seeing which beasties other folks think to ask for.

I've really enjoyed seeing what other people ask for as well actually; that's been quite awesome. :) I can't wait to do another 'request something!' post. I think I'll wait until I've done about 15 more from this list though.

And I'm so glad you like the artwork. *smiles*

Well, I will enjoy making requests until you are sick of 'em. I'm already trying to choose between about five critters for the next list. :-) Just curious, but have you been able to sell many of the requested totems?

Date: 2008-07-05 02:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com
I sold... most of the first batch of about 8 (I only have two left from that batch, the dragon and the cougar), but nothing since then except for the irish wolfhound (of all things!)

I'm planning on eventually opening an etsy store though, with these specific totems. I think they'll do pretty well over there.
