Oh my GODS. The feathers on Barnevelder are absolutely incredible! O_O Your poor hands. The facial features are bang-on as well. I love it!

Oh my, those feathers! I really like the barnevelder's spirals; for some reason I'd expected them to be similar to the pheasants', but they're much more...gentle.

The chuditch is really cute. Little whiskers. <3

You know I always really love the black and white stage of your artwork, but for some time now I've been convinced that this state is even *better* and more evocative, and these bear it out. The feathers on the Barnevelder and the eye on the Western Quoll are both mesmerizing!

these are great---She totally has that "I AM a dinosaur, mess with my eggs, and I will Peck you!" look that hens get.
Everyone is right, the feathers are amazing...and,

The feathers weren't 'fun' to do, but I love the way they look! :D

I like the barnevelder's spirals too, they were a bit softer than most other pheasants I've worked with; but I also chose hen breeds that were good layers or good meat birds, and a lot of them have become quite docile (for pheasants); so that might be why.

Aw thank you about the inking. I've started to think about using the inking to do the old 'fairytale etching' style like the uncoloured works of Maurice Sendak, which are black and white. Particularly the kind of work he did for The Animal Family:



His work with fineliners was always really quite inspirational.

I don't know if I can pull it off yet! But the forest illustration is a good start in the right direction (i.e. practicing settings, which I have a deplorable amount of practice in).

Seriously, no pressure implied by that. I just really liked the inked stages enormously, and I'll continue to admire them. And possibly buy a piece or two, as I can afford it. :)

I'm finding myself getting considerably more interested in the art of 'etching' (which is confusing and I wish it had a different name, because etching also refers to making prints from acid etched pieces of metal, as well as the fine 'etched' lines in fineliner work); not many people do it anymore, and I think I have enough dexterity that some of the techniques are within my grasp. Would probably have to learn new ways of doing both rock textures, and tree textures. But it'd be a lot of fun!
