Photos of the Day - 2010 Retrospective.
Jan. 1st, 2011 10:17 amA selection of my favourite Photos of the Day for 2010, in which I completed 276 days out of 365.
They are presented in chronological order from the start of the year, to the end of the year. Less than 20 were selected.
The Menzies banksias behind our house. I had just discovered how pretty their textures were close up. They were simply amazing to look at, and I had to share their repetition and texture and colour with people on Livejournal.

Then we had the worst storm in Perth's history. It lead to us having a 24 hour power outage. Glen's brother's wife's car was a write off after the hail storm. A friend became homeless after water damage to the house. This is the colour the clouds turned (no, it is NOT the colour of the sky behind the clouds, it's the colour generated BY the clouds). I stood outside and watched, while the air crackled around me, and the sky pulsed with dim flashes of lightning behind the aqua of the sky.

This was the sunset the next day. Again, taken from our house.

And then we had one of the most amazing electrical storms I've ever seen (again, taken from our house). I highly recommend you check out the rest of the post about it, if you like lightning shots: http://moonvoice.dreamwidth.org/866244.html?#cutid1

We dropped a picture off (My Lost Brothers) to a client who lived up near Burns Beach, so we decided to go to Burns Beach! While there, I looked up and noticed seagulls wheeling around, I waited a little while to get this shot; but I got it!

At this point, we hadn't yet gotten Maybe, our crazy kitten. But we had Moet, our wonderful champagne tabby.

And then we got Maybe. Here she is. Climbing the fridge to get at the magnets. She thankfully doesn't do this anymore. Though sometimes she looks like she wants to. We moved all the 'gettable' magnets to the very top of the fridge.

Moet and Maybe started to get along in very little time, but she always got up in his space.

Glen won his first game of the season!

I love how pretty bluebottles get during breeding season, even if I actually hate flies in the house, I don't mind them so much on the native plants outside in our back garden.

This would be one of my favourite shots of the year. I can't explain why. We were at Whiteman Park, the light was failing and my camera was on less than half a battery and struggling to take things in fine focus. As a result, I got this. Which actually looked almost exactly how I wanted it to look. It's a grey kangaroo.

With things charged up and back in focus, I got a shot of a menzies banksia in full bloom. Of course, it's a close up. I ended up putting this one on DeviantArt, and it became one of my most favourited pictures. The colours have not been doctored. This is just how awesome they look close up.

And there's Maybe, playing with one of her new Kong toys. Chew, chew, chew.

So maybe you've realised by now that I have a 'thing' for close ups of flowers. This is of one of the grevillea blossoms in our back garden.

A grey butcherbird in flight, at Whiteman Park, walking through the horse swamp.

Little did he know, this would be one of the few times he'd be allowed outside again. Moet and Maybe are both inside cats and have been for months; and at this point, we're not sure if we'll let them outside again.

Maybe doing what Maybe does best. Biting stuff.

But with a cat that good looking, who can blame her?

Endangered black cockatoos behind our house.

And then there was a tiger.

Maybe's chewing and eating and biting habits lead to little post-it notes like this. In case you can't read Glen's writing it says: 'I put your bear beanie hat in the pantry because Maybe was eating it. :)'

Daviesia in the bushland behind our house.

The awesome clouds during a random sunset one day, and the big 747 making its way past the clouds.

Bye everyone; hope to see you for more Photos of the Day in 2011!
