Hee, this icon. I have to tell you that Glen LOVES this icon so much that even though he couldn't remember where he saw it, it was his favourite icon, and he told me that in the car!

-laughs- It was partially the kids' idea. They saw a similar picture on Icanhazcheezburger and were like "make an icon of itttt!" It's such a happy-making icon for us. :D

This is going to sound very strange, as though I'm totally focusing on the wrong thing, but what I really love about this piece (and the other one you just finished) are the backgrounds/energy flows. This one speaks very much of the rainforest, and the other the river. Oh, the slow lorises are charming (and I'm particularly impressed at how you managed to capture those giant bulging eyes), but the background is mesmerizing. Perhaps it's like a while ago, where suddenly I found the eyes of all the totems in your artwork incredibly compelling, and now I've gotten used to that, and you've managed to achieve "more" with the backgrounds too. Keep ratcheting up and you may cause an accident as someone looks at a piece of your art and their head explodes! :D

Yay! Thank you. I love the colour choices too. Though I never get much of say in colour choices. (Sometimes I'm left looking at the colour choices saying to the animal totem, really? Do you not understand art at all???)

The eye thing, my non-biological-grandfather (I should really just call him Terry) taught me that when I was about 14. That the eyes, if you can get them right, become the most grounding and important part of a picture in terms of housing where it's 'life' is. Especially with animals. Since then, I personally notice - even on some truly exceptional paintings, even on truly exceptional wildlife paintings - when I see eyes that look dead, or have no care placed into them.

As for the backgrounds, this one was particularly satisfying to do. I never get much say in the colours an animal, or animals want, but I do get a say in how they're applied, sometimes. And in this case, I think it all worked out. :D
