Heh. These are all great (I particularly like the ones that show how her body moves). I'm particularly taken with the sixth photo, though, and that's because Maybe's intent expression is identical to my dog's. I suspect that like him, she fixates quite strongly. Of course it's also obvious that she's high drive. :D

Oh yeah, when she wants something, she wants it, and then basically once she's in that frame of mind, she has no idea about the safety of others (i.e. I got scratched because I got in her way, and the only reason it wasn't worse was because of quick reflexes).

But I can't not play with her, she enjoys the toys more when there's a human element, and it's fun for me too. But balancing the camera and the toys made me a little slower!

I personally love Moet's 'engaging' with the toy. 'Yeah, whatever, go away and leave me to my sunlight.' Hee.

Have you tried a flirt pole? You can even make one cheaply yourself -- all it requires is a length of doweling or a stick, a stout cord, and a toy she'd like to chase on the end. You use it like a fishing pole, to keep the toy on the end in motion, and *really* give the cat or dog something to chase! Some animals are too distracted by the pole to enjoy the game, but Maybe might like it, and it would save you from getting shredded.

I bring them out on special occasions (have a couple in a drawer so she doesn't eat them), but once she realises there's cord involved, she'd prefer to chew through that than play with the toy. And once she's got her back teeth hooked on the cord, it's almost impossible to extract it without manually opening her mouth (she won't give up chewing cord or fabric for toys or the prescription/sensitive food she can have, unfortunately; the only thing she will voluntarily give it up for, is being sprayed with water, but I don't like to introduce that into play sessions).

Toys + Maybe have been a bit of a puzzle. I've thought about trying to find a taste deterrent which isn't an overt smell deterrent, so that she'd still bite the toy but not the cord, but I'm not sure if they're out there. That's my next step in the quest to both stop Maybe from eating herself to death + keep her stimulated with toys.

I used to spray the end of my bed and the curtains with black pepper oil because Jake my old cat used to like to sharpen his claws on the bed and climb the curtains, it worked because it made him sneeze. I only did a few times but both places must have kept the smell (not smellable to humans, it was a very light spray) because he lost interest quickly.

Yeah see, that's the problem. I don't want it to smell, only to taste bad (I don't know if that's even possible). Otherwise it will act to deter Maybe from the toy itself, and then it won't be good at all. :/

I could give vegemite a try. She'll either love it as she loves her probiotics (which are mostly seaweed and have no meat product in them), or she won't. Can't hurt! It's healthy anyway. :)
