Photo/s of the day. (And an update on the state of Fentanyl Kitty).

What do you mean she got her drip out? She's high as a kite! - To which we said 'oh, it's nice to see she's as mischeivous doped up as she is sober.' She had removed her drip. Here she is, shaved everywhere, spacey. She needed a fentanyl patch for the pain. We're looking at between $1500 -> $2000 for costs; provided nothing goes wrong in recovery.

Which earnt her the nickname Fentanyl Kitty

High as a Kite - You can see on the chart that at the earliest, we're not going to be getting her home until tomorrow evening. She gets tested on foods tomorrow. Right now it's costing us $1500, but with observation, pain meds, drips and so on, it's looking to cost us closer to $2000 by the time this is all over and done with. Yes, they offer payment plans, but they ask for 50% upfront, which is still our savings.

SpaceMaybe - When I started talking to her soothingly, she started kneading her paws and reached out to me. The vet tech said I could stay all night and talk to all the animals! Poor Maybe. She had no idea what was going on.

Maybe Van Ravenstein - They spelt our last name wrong, but okay.

Problems - To the left you can see the two obstructions, they are pom poms (each about the size of a fat almond) from a cat toy that cost $10.00 - she played with it for two months before she decided to eat the pom poms yesterday. She threw one up. Because we caught it so early, no bowel had to be removed, the vet was very pleased. On the right you can see the complete ovary and part of the uterus that the vet who sterilised her missed. Because of this, it is likely she was producing some level of unspayed cat hormones, and may have even gone into heat, without being able to do anything about it.

Oh baby girl, we'll see you soon - when I said goodbye to her, she started kneading her paws again. I wish I could stay.

Long day - Waiting for Dr. Barry to come out and talk to us about what to expect. The days when she's going to show signs of infection and leakage are days three to five - when we have her home - the symptoms will be throwing up and abdominal pain. It's unlikely, because we caught it so early, her bowels were 'fresh', and they seem pretty on the ball with care. But it's good to know. The surgeon who actually worked on Maybe (and noticed the ovary/uterus lining) was called Ariadne. Which I liked. I said thank you to the surgeon, but I'll be saying thank you to the deity too.

Thank you guys, for all being so amazing with this stuff. We all say thank you. Well, except for Maybe, who probably has the munchies or something, or is right now trying to remove her drip, like the Maybe we've come to know and love.

Gah. I was offline yesterday and missed all of this. How scary! I'm glad she seems to be doing well.

Me too, will be calling the vet again soon to see how she's doing / how she went through the night and if she's taken any food; because that will be a really good sign (that and her first successful bowel movement).

These were fascinating pictures, particularly the obstructions and the girlie bits that were left behind. And the surgeon was Ariadne? THAT is so kewl!

Glad things appear to be going better now for Maybe.

I'm glad they didn't mind me taking pictures. The vet actually took out the girly bits and showed us that it was pretty much a complete ovary. Glen's like 'ewww' and I'm like 'fascinating!' Heh.

Very glad she made it through ok!! Here's to a speedy and uneventful recovery (even if it means having to use the dreaded Cone of Shame)!

Hear hear!

Aww, poor thing. At least shes on the road to recovery...though that bill is iccccckk. >_<

GOOD LUCK

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
The bill is a little ick, but I'm glad she's on the road to recovery too. I can't wait for it to be two weeks from now, when she's well and truly out of the woods and can have her stitches removed.

OMG! Look at the size of those pupils!!! Poor Maybe!

Yeah, she won't officially be out of the woods until Day 6, but goodness, seeing her all spaced out like that... at least she was awake though, and pretty active, considering she'd just had major surgery. That's how she got the drip out - despite all that sedation - she was wriggly.

Pretty typically herself, actually.

[identity profile] crowebasalt.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
oh man, look at those pupils. O.O Ham looked like that after his UTI that left him blocked, and they had to go in and break it up. it's awful having a pet after surgery- you feel so bad for them and wish you knew how to tell them in a way they understand that they're going to be okay. poor Maybe.

she's still in my prayers. i hope she recovers quickly and uneventfully! <3

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
oh man, look at those pupils. O.O

Sky high! Heh.

I hope she recovers quickly and uneventfully too. And isn't so much of a ratbag that she hurts herself in the process.

[identity profile] paka.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor fuzzy! I'm glad she's doing a little bit better.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. I hope she starts eating food today, because that will be a really good sign. She hasn't eaten anything solid at all (and kept it down) since Tuesday morning.

I wonder if having the rest of her ovaries/uterus out, will effect her temperament....like especially with Moet?

((((((Maybe, P, G, and Moet)))))))) :)

I don't know, she's only 25 weeks, and while some female kittens go into heat earlier, most go into heat for the first time later than 25 weeks - so she didn't go into her first heat around Moet or anything, I guess we just won't know now.

But the vet and vet nurses think it was likely she was producing hormones at any rate. They were actually pretty horrified. :/

Poor baby girl.. I remember seeing my kitty when he was all doped up when they tried getting him to throw up a bit of large tinsel ribbon he ate. Didn't throw it up, but managed to pass it all through with no injury.

*hugs* I hope Maybe recovers soon, and so does your bank account!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:34 am (UTC)(link)

Me too! I'm sure in two weeks time she'll be running circles around us again.

The two obstructions were huge, but they actually got pretty far through her digestive system before it said 'oh no seriously I can't pass this!' She's eaten other smaller things before and passed them without injury, but these were the size of fat almonds, so... bigger.

[identity profile] toeknuckles.livejournal.com 2010-05-19 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I missed all of this yesterday. That's what I get for not being on LJ so much.
SO glad that she's ok. Poor little girl! I know you've only had ehr for a short time, but geez, even *I* feel like I know her! She's really made a space for herself.
I can't imagine anybody not wanting her. It pains me to think McShitty only had a day left on death row. Half an hour though? Holy hell. Maybe is the luckiest cat there is. Going from death row to living with you guys? Luckiest break EVER.

Hope your poor little kitty recovers soon. And Moet doesn't miss her too badly.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was like 'Maybe has ear mites -> Maybe is recovering from major surgery!' It was just a fucking coincidence of awful that the night she was declared clear for ear mites was the night she developed a bowel impaction, my poor baby.

Half an hour though? Holy hell.

That was our reaction when her foster Mumma told us that. Half an hour? Shite.

[identity profile] faerysprl.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
yay, i'm glad that she got through the surgery ok. still lots of good vibes for the recovery. I hope you don't mind, but i sent out an email to some of my friends with links to your art. I'll be paying the last of what i owe you on the 11th and hopefully i'll have enough extra to pick up something else as well. I'm sorry i can't send it sooner. Try to be kind to yourself you did the right thing, you love your kitties, you love Glenn and they love you back. I hope you got some sleep. Hang in there as best you can.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad she got through the surgery too, she's not out of the woods yet, but it's onwards and upwards from here hopefully.

As for funds, don't rush yourself, your previous payment cleared recently and that alone will be a great help. I can't wait to send Vasilisa to you though. :) I am becoming very excited about you finally receiving her in person.

[identity profile] little-foxy.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Hope she is getting better each day...

and those pom poms are one of the reason why I don't tend to buy much in the way of cat toys... small parts that may be a swallowing hazard, they have to label kids toys but not pet toys...

scrunched up pieces of paper are good toys, as are bits of ribbon tied together, if they do manage to get bits off they are quite small, and paper breaks down pretty quickly.

[identity profile] eat-sleep-fuck.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Just catching up after some Internet outage, and wow it is good to hear that Maybe is doing fine! So terrible about your savings, pet insurance is on my list of things to get once I claw my way out of debt this time... ah, sigh.

Just very glad to hear she's doing well, and also happy to hear that the surgery resulted in that ovary/uterus remnant being removed too. Surely that would've been something noticeable if you missed it - an entire ovary? Ugh.

[identity profile] shimmerhawk.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Augh, that's so sad, but at the same time I'm glad you caught it early and she'll be ok. I'm glad it wasn't worse and that she even got that leftover bit from sterilization surgery removed. She looks adorable even all doped up.

Wish I could help with the money somehow, but I don't have that kind of money either. :(

[identity profile] corvus-animus.livejournal.com 2010-05-20 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Her pupils are HUGE in those photos, haha. High kitty is high!

I'm glad she's alright <3
