[Photos] Good morning, brother raven.

I had a juvenile Australian raven come visit a roof-top today and then caw its handsome little heart out. I had to switch lenses, and the Australian ravens here know when they're abuot to be photographed and generally wait until I've got the camera lined up before flying away. It makes me laugh.

So I said out loud, 'please wait for me this time, brother raven, please wait,' and I ran and switched lenses and came back outside and got these. :)

With morning light and a storm behind me.

'How much longer do you want me to stay?'

Preparing to let the world know he exists.

A wake up call for the suburbs. Look how impressive those throat hackles are!

He's gorgeous. :)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
It was lovely to wake up to this morning.
Well, except for the 'AH, AH, AH, AHHHHHHHHHH' noise that they make. Lol.

Wow, he has quite the presence, doesn't he? :D Excellent captures!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
He is! I'm so glad he stayed for a the minute he did so that I could get some pictures.

[identity profile] corvus-animus.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for sharing! A young raven for a young home? :3

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, we have so many ravens here it's not funny. They're all pretty shy. But at any one time, going outside, you'll see or hear about 3-4 ravens. They just love the construction site.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And I'm so glad he stayed to pose. :)

[identity profile] makhsihed.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, the iridescence on his neck hackles is just amazing on those last two pictures!

What a lovely fellow. Yay burdies~

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Australian ravens, from memory, have the largest throat hackles of all the ravens. So even the juveniles get to show them off! :D

[identity profile] end-of-the-mind.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
How handsome! I'll have to send you pics of our resident ravens. They're not nearly as impressive in the hackle department, but they're very uhh...black. And large. And bitey! Owie!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've said this twice already, so anyone reading my comments is going to be bored, but Australian ravens have the largest throat hackles of any raven.

Maybe they're compensating for their smaller size? ;) ;)

[identity profile] poetrywolf.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, he's quite impressive. ^_^

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
He was awesome. :D

[identity profile] nachtrabe.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that is a beautiful bird...

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* The adults here are more 'impressive,' but all ravens are so handsome.

[identity profile] lupabitch.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I love, love, love the "beard" of feathers under the beak!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The Australian raven has the most distinctive/prominent throat hackles of any raven - so even the juveniles have really impressive beards! :)

[identity profile] belenen.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
wow, those photos are amazing! as is the subject ♥

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! He was a gorgeous subject. :D

[identity profile] silere.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:33 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't he? I'm glad he showed off for me for a little while. The ravens here are plentiful, but also very shy.

What a dignified looking raven you got there. :) Stunning photos. Simply stunning.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, thank you!
And he was pretty dignified.
And loud. Heh.

[identity profile] white9-fox.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, they are really different looking than the crows and ravens I've seen. Very cool.

His eyes look red though. Is that a juvie thing, or just his own thing?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's brown, and has gone a bit reddish in the morning light. Most juvie ravens I've seen have had black/dark dark brown eyes, so I wonder if the colouration change is because they're starting to turn white.

[identity profile] white9-fox.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Learn something new everyday :)

It makes sense at least.

Ooh, Shiny!

[identity profile] perzephone.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Wotta pretty birdie!

And quite considerate to pose for you like that :)

Re: Ooh, Shiny!

[identity profile] jet-ski.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
looks a bit wet :P no wonder they protest! hahah

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah, they've been much louder today than usual.

[identity profile] singingnettle.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 06:13 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] dragonsrmd.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
He certainly is handsome! Where I work there are quite a few ravens, they fascinate me as they have such incredible presence :)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
That is awesome! I love it when you can get exposure to other animals and such at work, even if it's just nearby. We've only just moved house into a brand new suburb, so it's basically a gigantic sandpit edged by bushland; and the ravens love it here. I'd hazard that every new house built has been visited and 'christened' by ravens and feral foxes.

[identity profile] dragonsrmd.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately developers have been building houses on the land nearby so we've lost some of our woodland, however we still get visited by lots of wildlife including jays, woodpeckers, some spectacular feisty magpies, also deer and their young :D Even some of our most unsettled patients will stop and calm for a while just to watch :D
