arty stuff.

I haven't done the write-up yet,
but in the deck, the redback spider represents (among other things): surrender, giving yourself away, the feminine principle.

Redback Spider

I think I'm coming down with something...
but that doesn't really surprise me after the past few days.

Thank you so much for this. It's just amazing. My mate and I both love it.

Another rockin' image! I love the aqua/rust shading.

[identity profile] nicanthiel.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's...wow. Very powerful. I can feel it through the screen, and that's not usual by a long shot. (I tend to be a concrete-head when it comes to things like that)

-applauds- It's gorgeous.

Hmmm...

While I'm not sooo afraid of spiders anymore (a lesson taught by scorpions over the past 2 years...), they're still disturbing for the most part.

This painting looks like an eyeball to me. It's striking, but I can't honestly say I like it. ((shudders))

It says a lot to me about self-perception.

[identity profile] amorvincitnos.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I know I mentioned I'm not a spider person, but I do definitely like the symbolism here...the kind of spidery veins of life-blood streaming out...definitely a feminine feeling.

[identity profile] qilora.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
wicked. ;-)

sorry you feeling oogy health-wise, but honestly i wouldn't be surprised if you're doing a bit of "house-cleaning"... sucks to be sick, but can be rather cathartic..

you've been doing quite the battle, make sure you baby yourself for a bit now.. 'kay?...

I have the eyeball thing going as well- looks like the veiny bits at the back of one. Is that an egg in the centre?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
an egg, an energy point, the white vacant space that the male redback chooses to pour his life into, no one knows...

;)

[identity profile] tigressmin.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, that is amazing! I first saw an "eyeball" but now for some reason it reminds me of the hanged man from the major arcana in tarot.

Oh, and do make certain to take care of yourself if an ailment is approuching ^_^

[identity profile] crsg.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm extremely arachnaphobic, but luckily I don't mind depictions. :)

[identity profile] dibeartach.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, to me, it looks like rivulets of fire.
I'm mad arachnophobic, but Spider is fast becomming a really strong shadow symbol for me at the moment - a silver spider.
Looks awesome as redback.

Oh wow. That's beautiful. I love it.

[identity profile] apocalypsegrrl.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Spiders give me the heebie-jeebies. If I saw that spider in real life, I'd take off screaming.

But it's a kick ass picture.

I might have asked this before (if I have, then my only explanation is that i just woke up), but what medium do you use for your work?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
i use illustrator's board as the surface to draw on.

and then all the black is done in water-fast fineliner, with the colouring done in watercolour pencil and then regular coloured pencil sometimes too. i tend to use derwents and faber castell, but i will occasionally use polychromos.

[identity profile] apocalypsegrrl.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome. It's so vivid, that I'd have guessed it was acrylic paint.

[identity profile] teriel.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it a lot. Are there webs emanating from it?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
webs, energy, whatever you want it to be. *smiles* redback spiders have extraordinarily disorganised webs, which is why they love human habitation so much.

it's a lot easier to build 3d webs around humans, than it is in the bush, which is why - despite being highly venomous - they seem to love us and be drawn to our homes.

[identity profile] teriel.livejournal.com 2008-02-22 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for sharing.

Also I'm gonna keep you friended on my lj, but also give you space, other than to occasionally comment to say hello, etc.

[identity profile] lupabitch.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think spiders are awesome, this one included! I like the lines in this one; it's a unique take on the concept of "web".

[identity profile] makhsihed.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeeespider! :D

I freaking adore spiders. (Like I said a while ago - I would die very quickly in Australia. I have this bad habit of picking up the pretties...)

This is beautifully done. Extraordinarily dynamic, as always.

Drink lots of tea and feel better! *hugs*

*grins* This is stunningly gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

This is amazing!

[identity profile] aurora-artnsoul.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
In this art I see an image of a tunnel like cave. The background gives me an illusion that I am entering and the foreground the illusion that I am leaving. In a sense it gives me the impression that I have two choices...one way is forward and the other backward. It's interesting how this balance works.

[identity profile] micalela.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think Spider would be very proud of what you have drawn of her. Me toO!!

[identity profile] blackdragon5.livejournal.com 2008-02-20 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I love spiders and this one is beautiful. The spider is the only animal spirit that appears to me in different forms, usually a jumping spider or a female golden garden spider. To me they represent, facing fears, because I used to be scared to death of them and now I think they are fascinating.

[identity profile] pagan-panther.livejournal.com 2008-02-22 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I can feel my spine tingle, but it's still a beautiful picture. It reminds me a lot of the Blackwidow Spider we have in North America. VERY poisonous but it's rare someone dies from it despite her reputation. Is this a similar type spider to the Blackwidow? Is its bite toxic to humans?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2008-02-22 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The redback spider is a relative of the black widow; and is toxic. There hasn't been a death recorded in some time now, but it has killed in the past. About 250 bites are recorded each year. :)

I haven't finished the file on Redback spider yet, but if you keep your eyes on the animal dictionary page on my website, that is where the file will go when it's done - though it will probably be posted here too. :)
