The news about the greyhounds is particularly wonderful. I'm not surprised that they make good service dogs in this context -- most are sensitive, gentle souls when not hunting, so they can provide a great deal of gentle, undemanding, loving contact for people who need it.

Bah, USA's not even in the top ten. I wish we could get our shit together over here. XD

Vancouver is #1??? Every person I have known who has lived or visited Vancouver (which is an admittedly small 8 people) has been robbed. An Aussie friend who had just a one night layover in Vancouver was robbed. O_O That place scares the shit out of me, and it's #1?! I've also heard pretty terrible things about Adelaide... like, it's the highest producer of serial killers in Australia, and the tap water tastes so terrible that bottled water is a necessity when visiting.

Ah, whatever. Things like education and healthcare would be much more important, neh? How are schools in Perth?

Maaaaybe, but proportionately to other countries, it's still pretty low I think.

WA's produced some pretty awesome serial killers as well. The Birnies come immediately to mind.

How are schools in Perth?

Well, I went to a dero, bogan, public school. If town quality was based off Johnno, we'd be number -436. Gangs man. Gangs. In Perth.

Vancouver always makes me think of the serial killer who fed prostitutes to his pigs. >.>;;;

I kind of assumed there were gangs everywhere. I haven't heard of any in Launny, but there's a fairly active drug scene. And where there are drugs, there are gangs. Reston, not too far away from my hometown, was drug gang central. One of the reasons I stayed away from drugs was because the gangs scared the shit out of me.

Schools? There are some awesome ones and not so awesome ones. I think, I would move if I had kids so that they would get to go to Churchlands SHS (public and artsy and awesome academically). ;)

Adelaide is pretty, and laidback (there is a bit of urban decay but it adds to the appeal for me). I didn't notice any issues with the tap water (I drank ALOT of it). There isn't much to do there, but you gotta make your own fun. There are some awesome artists and musicians coming outta there. From a cyclist POV I would love to spend some more time there.

I've been thinking way too much about future my-kids and schools lately. Heh. I would really love to find a place that wasn't full of bratty rich kids that also has a really strong academic and self-motivating focus, although it's not something I have to think about for at least another 10 years... *makes a note of Churchlands*

I've actually wanted to visit Adelaide for a long time now. It's only in the past two months that I've started to hear about its less savory side. Maybe it's just one of those strange "my state is better than your state" type deals. Tap water from Florida definitely had a different taste than tap water from Virginia, and I could never decide if it was worse or better, but it was certainly startling.

Every city has a dark side though! And if you look at the cities at the bottom of the list, and compare them with the top of the list... out of the bottom 10 the only one I've been to is Kathmandu, and it was filthy and full of lonely homeless children. People lived in shells of buildings and everyone walked around coughing (TB, anyone?) Theres' no comparison between that and the glistening wealthy cities on the top of the list.

Mmm, agreed.

Birnies, Catherine keeps applying to get out of jail, *shudder* One of the places they dumped a body was in the pine plantation just next to Ellenbrook.

> Birnies, Catherine keeps applying to get out of jail,
Don't they all? It's one of the things in the States that makes death row inmates so much more expensive to have than life sentence prisoners. (Because of the severity of a death sentence, appeals are usually heard out and take several years?? Something like that.)

Next to Ellenbrook. That would be really unsettling. They certainly went on a spree, though. I thought serial killers were supposed to space out their kills.

Adelaide just has a reputation for being extremely boring. Maybe these serial killers do it because they're bored?

Hahaha! Lack of imagination and initiative. ;)

I just want to know where Canberra ranked!
