The problem with some birds is that they have naturally down-turning beaks which, when you scrutinise them closely, often makes them look grumpy or sad. Cardinal is another perfect example of that.
Sometimes I'll cheat and 'upturn' the line of the beak a bit. But with Robin I didn't want to mess with the expression and left it as is. Which means the face is - to me - as naturally emotive as they are in real life. :)
