[Art] Umiri (Koondoola Land Spirit - 01)

Umiri (01)
(Swamp paperbark grove spirit).

I met Umiri many years ago now, and feel s/he is the patron of that particular grove of swamp paperbarks in the southern end of Koondoola; who no longer experience the regular rise and fall of the swamp since the government came in and drained them all away by using groundwater for our tapwater.

Umiri isn't a spirit I 'worked' with spiritually, just a spirit I paid respect to and still do from time to time. I don't get down to the Southern end very often, but I like it when I do. It feels older there, and more primal. And I'd be lying if I didn't say my meeting Umiri is a part of that.

I think it's brilliant that [livejournal.com profile] storm_seeker was so impressed she's promoting this one :-)
I really love this one, too. I didn't think much of it in the black and white, but the colours really bring the whole thing to life. S/he looks as if those dark hands are reaching for the sky, catching the stars, and it sings such a deep, organic, primordial feel to it, the sort of song the things that crawl in the undergrowth in the rainforests here sing, but at the same time, an awareness of sparsity and heat over there in WA.
... I don't know, there's something in that that doesn't fit with words. Not that you want my opinion, but that's it - I think it's fab :-)

It's funny, because in some ways I liked it more as black and white (even though it had too many errors in it to stay that way). Heh, it's weird how those things happen.

Thank you so much, and I always value your opinion. *snugs*
