Maybe it's just my personality and life, but to me it doesn't read as "something horrific is happening to this person, connected to the rabbits," and instead more like "the rabbits symbolize very important things about the person's self, and the stuff that's happened to them."

It makes me real curious about the fairytale you wrote that's behind this.
