I'm not a fan of the Thoth or Rider/Waite deck (having worked with both) and enjoy the Enchanted Tarot, though I agree that the information in the book can come across as 'soft', the illustrations of the cards themselves are quite full on - which makes for great intuitive readings vs. book readings.
I'm hoping to get at least two more decks now, in the tarot anyway, though I have about four different oracle card decks which I used more frequently than tarot these days. Tarot to me is more light-hearted than runes anyway (for me, I think I will always see runes as a very grave practice), so having a deck that is more artistic and aesthetic (like the Enchanted) and less cold and directly archetypal (like the Thoth / RW) probably fits me more.

I have the runes for the big stuff, I guess. :)
