Ok, allow me to elaborate- I personally do not waste my time eating iceberg lettuce, I hate the stuff too. And celery only on occasion, and not as a 'feature' as a snack or as part of a meal. And a pound of celery- that's a lot of damn celery! You actually burn more calories chewing it and digesting it than the calorie content of the celery itself.
What I meant was, I have no idea why people condemn a vegetarian diet based on the idea that they cannot live off "rabbit food", for cost reasons or otherwise. Vegetarians aren't munching on salads and fruit pieces all the time, there's plenty of other foods to eat, that are cheap and easily accessible in most places. You don't need to be living in an agricultural utopia to make decent, cheap and filling meals without meat made solely out of store cupboard stocks and canned goods which I imagine are similar in prices in most places (i.e. a lot cheaper than meat).
